Temporary EDC For Travel

This is why you just mail yourself a basic SAK to where you will be staying. I've done this several times now, and it's always there waiting for me. When I leave, I jut gift it to someone. The grounds keeper, the taxi driver to the airport, whoever. Everyone appreciates a nice lightly used SAK as a gift out of the blue.

Carl.

Up until I realized you could actually buy SAKs it always seemed this is how everyone got theirs. Most if not all the people I know got their SAK as gifts/finding laying around. I actually gave my brother-in-law his SAK after someone gave it to me after finding it laying around.

Although I always have a bottle opener, there's always the side of a table if I don't have an opener for some reason.

That might be acceptable at the Route 547 Deluxe Motel, but the folks at Hampton Inn probably wouldn't appreciate it. :D

If the Victorinox Waiter is too flashy or pretentious, there's always this for opening bottles:

Didn't the TSA relax the total knife ban allowing for a < 2' non-locking blade like a Vic Classic?

My last trip I packed a Victorinox Electrician in my checked luggage. Worked great. I never travel with just carryon luggage.

Worst case I'd pick up an inexpensive knife at a retail store like the OP did. If it was a keeper I'd mail it to myself on the date of departure.

So far, the little OT knife has worked well. I've opened several beers with it mostly, cut open a few packages of food too. I almost tossed it before I got to the airport but decided to leave it in the rental car with Mom and Dad. They are staying a few extra days and I figured dad may need it. Turns out we missed our flight and I get another day in Vegas. The knife is back in my pocket. Haha

Me and my buddy used his Ozark trail knife as a throwing knife. It slammed into the tree a number times and still holds up fine a side from the plastic cracking but it still works as a knife. It's great for $1. I still have mine in perfect working order.
