Temporary Handle Pins for Coating?

Hi All,

For my next project I want to coat my blade with aluma-hyde, duracoat or something similar. I'll figure out the coating but what I need help with is the best way to attach the scales temporarily so they can be shaped, removed, the blade coated and then the scales reinstalled and pinned in a manner that doesn't require grinding and finsihing the pin heads and thereby risking damage to the finish on the scales.

I've searched around for inspiration and don't see much outside of some variants of a screw-in rivet that might work if I counter sink the holes. Is that the best option? I've searched youtube and Google but don't see anything that makes me feel confident or provides the results I'm hoping for.

Cheers (and yes I'm actually physically tipping a glass in advance to the health of everyone with advice).

Pins or dowels with a couple dots of super glue between tang and scales while shaping. punch the pins out after you're done, then heat to separate glue, clean with some acetone on both parts, and coat as desired.

Great guys, thanks for the tip. I've got a great design and some new things to try. Really looking forward to this build.
