Ten Wilderness Essentials PowerPoint handout

NICE! i'm going to print off a couple hundred and put them in the trailhead map boxes around the North Shore of BC Canada. Thanks man!

I was looking for a steel bottle to melt snow/heat water. Thanks for the heads up.

That way I won't have to start a new thread ;)

Would it be possible to download the slideshow some other way? It wants me to register and I rather wouldn't.

Great post and great presentaion.

Really liked the 'for show and for go' comment. Mother natures ego is bigger than yours, carry smart gear choices.

Thanks for sharing,I just revamped my kit prior to seeing your
handout.I'm pretty close to your thinking it's nice to know that
my kit has evolved close to what an expert in the field teaches.

thanks again man
Bill

That's not a bad idea for where I am too. Most of the map boxes are empty almost year-round and some of the trails take you into treacherous territory.

I like that presentation. Nice work.

Nice presentation, always interesting to see what others advocate as the essential 10. I like the fact that you follow up on your text with a picture-example of gear. Nice detail.

Thanks alot

That's good work Kevin! Lots of good information, and fairly stated.

I do have one small criticism if I may, just from someone who has to give and attend a huge number of powerpoint presentations: try to further divide the slides so that there isn't too much info on any given slide. I have found a limit of five bullets to be best, but most 'experts' say seven is a max. Too much to read and you can't focus on the presenter, and your eyes get bogged down sifting through it. People will also have better knowledge retention of 'sub-topics' (like the firesteel info that was inside the fire slide).

Just a small thought that might further improve the delivery! Good work.

Spooky,
I don't use these as actual powerpoints on a projector or screen. They are meant as handouts to use away from the computer. I agree 100% the need to limit text on slides if used for an actual presentation.

Kevin, thats a great presentation. Factual, concise, and very informative.

Over the past 50 years, I have come to much the same conclusion regarding what the prudent person in the woods should have with him.
I carry the suggested items, and more, in a small hydration pack, and I also carry some method of treating water, in case what I have with me is not adequate for my needs.
Personally, I like the addition of a small .22 pistol and ammunition. Maybe not an essential choice for everyone, but it is for me.
