Will a Sage blade swap to a Tenacious frame? I am trying to upgrade the steel in my Tenacious. I know of a damaged Sage-blade OK.

Hi W650owner,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I don't know what a "Sable blade" is, but I doubt that it will go into our Tenacious and have good results.

First of all, these knives are made by skilled knifemakers. Just because they have screws, doesn't mean that you are a knifemaker. I will admit that there are some that can successfully take apart knives and get them back together as well or better than original, but they are far and few between. Our own customer service department can attest to that.

Secondly, if anything is off by .002, it won't work. These are close tolerance heat treated steels and they don't move much.

Sal, I meant "Sage", not "Sable". I don't where that came from. I also ask if Spyderco plans to upgrade the blade steel of the Tenacious? So far, I haven't had a problem with Chinese steel in the Tenacious, but longer time between sharpening would help. The Tenacious really is the knife I like best. Good job for making it available.

Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think that you can switch them out. They're not even close.

We are working with a Chinese foundry to make a better steel, but it's still a ways off.

It's not likely that you will see steels coming from China in the near future that are comparable to S30V.

If the distance between the pivot and the tang is not exactly the same, the lock won't engage properly, because of the different blade shape and different sized kick, the blade might even hit the pillars, i would strongly suggest against doing it.

Thanks guys for the replies. I really appreciate your interests. I am enjoying the overall utility of my Tenacious as well as any knife I have ever owned. It is probably the most sensible EDC for me. I shall keep aware of any improvements to this worthy and affordable Spyderco model.
