Hi Speedtrip...I'm new here as well, so Welcome to Blade Forums; As many have said to me, This is a GREAT place to be, so enjoy your stay, and I hope you have as much fun as I am:) As for my sugjestion...I would SURE AS HELL go for the Spyderco Tenacious:eek: They are Extremely well designed, and built to the highest Spyderstandards!!!!! I have 2...One Spyderedged, and one plain:cool:

Thanks for the welcome and all the reply's.
Decided to go with the Tenacious, this will be my first reputable folder I just hope it does not get as expensive as my Kukri interest

No offense, I havent had the typical social conditioning that convinces Knife enthusiasts about the merits of the spine whack test.

But seriously, you are going to use a test that openly uses a knife CONTRARY to it's design, to make a lock fail?

What is the spine whack test supposed to replicate from real world use?

Hammering nails into wood? deanimating a ninja from behind, non lethally?

Well if its an edc knife with the ability to defend yourself, if someone were to strike knife with stick downward in block and lock fails blade goes into hand.

I have both and they are both great value knives for the money.
I have the all Stainless Byrd and it was half the price of the Tenacious, same steel both quality but I think the tenacious feels like a better knife and the blade shape and grind is better in my opinion.
Either way you will be happy I think.

Might be better to run for it in that case.
I have never thought about a knife v stick contest.
Hold the knife with the edge up maybe?
:)

I recently acquired a Tenacious (no Cara Cara experience), and am really impressed with it, given its price point. It came razor sharp, with no blade play, and OK finishing. I will point out that this knife is a handful. The handle feels great, and when open, the ergonomics really work for my hand, and the G-10 is really grippy. However, it is a real pocketful when closed. The wide blade and handle make for a big package in your pocket. The closed size makes it less of an ideal EDC knife than some of the finer Spydie designs, IMO. But when it is working, it feels great. I do like the size of the blade and the flat grind. It screams for tough tasks. The thumb hole was a bit sharp when I got it, but that was an easy and fun mod/fix. So I guess it gets -1 on the finish points. Fit is awesome. I think it is the best $30 value I have got in a long time.

Tenacious hands down.
The Cara Cara is a poor man's Endura but still a very good value and solid knife.
I have all three (the Endura IV in G10, VG10 flatgrind) and of course the Endura is the best of the bunch but significantly more expensive. The Tenacious could have easily been a Byrd model but was so good that Spyderco put its name one it. It has good ergonomics, a flat grind, and good fit and finish. I have one in my pocket as I type this note.

What bothers me is Spyderco could make this knife in Golden with say Sandvik 13C26 for not a significant increase in the retail price of the current Tenacious. And, I'd gladly pay double the $40 total cost of the Chiny one I have.
