Tenacious or Native?

Well, I appreciate very much the input you all gave, today I went ahead and ordered a Native for my son after all. I decided to go for something with better steel.

While I was at it I went ahead and ordered my daughter a Dragonfly.

I hope they'll like their new cutters!

Go with the Native in s30v steel. I have both knives and the native is way better than the tenacious. here is why in my opinion: 1) ergonomics 2) light-weight 3) fun/ease of use, 4) build quality is way better. The tenacious is no fun to use and the build quality is not good, at least on mine. The Delica is nice, but I prefer the Native for heavier tasks.

The build quality on the Tenacious is exceptional and you cannot beat the price. The native has a cheap nylon handle compared to the Tenacious in G10. The Tenacious is also an open pillar build that can be cleaned and taken apart very easily if it gets really dirty. The Native is constructed with a cheap rivet build that cannot be taken apart OR cleaned easily. The Tenacious also has full stainless steel liners. This is a really strongly built knife. The blade shape on the tenacious being full flat grind is also WAY BETTER than the hollow grind of the already too thin native blade. The Tenacious steel is pretty much the same as AUS 8 which really is pretty good stuff by the way. I have more expensive steel knives and can't tell much of a difference in the performance. S30V steel is great steel if you have a few days to do what should be a 10 min. sharpening. That is an exaggeration but you get my point. Don't get me wrong, this is great steel. I have several knives of this steel but they are not easily sharpened. Don't tell me I need to learn how to sharpen a knife either. Been doing it to a razor edge with a wet stone set for 25 plus years. The fact of the matter is s30v is not easy to sharpen to a super fine edge and stropping is minimaly effective because it is so hard. It is not a steel for the novice. Once you get it sharp it will remain so for a good while but it is a pain is the a$$ to get there. Also if the tempering is not just perfect you will get micro fractures / chips on the edge even on soft cutting chores. Good stuff but finicky. Get the Tenacious. MUCH BETTER VALUE for the $$.

Tromano just about said it perfectly. The Tenacious is a great knife. Carry it as much as knives costing 3or 4 times as much.

I brought a Tenacious and was so impressed I just ordered another two. They are the best bargin going in folding knives, period.
