More in the actual capability to obtain the steel, HT them and sell them at such low cost than their habit of 'misslabelling'.
A good examples are made in China Bokers. Some of them are labelled 440C.
I guess one way or the other, it's shiny footsteps Chris.![]()

I could be wrong, but what I'm hearing is that the OP likes the design of the Ten/Per better than anything else in the Spyderco lineup, regardless of price, and would like to have the option of a better steel...??

I will agree with you on that point for sure. And though I am loath to enjoy the less than stellar offerings from China in most regards, I really can't knock Spyderco's.
Yup, if I have to go with 8Cr, I can't lose with Spyderco.
About the steel upgrade, I was one of those who clamored before for a different steel. I actually asked for 52100 (because I like the steel and it's different enough from 8Cr to make it interesting for me to get, and finally because it's not a costly steel)but Mr. G said that he was concerned about inconsistent heat treat. I would buy a tenacious is a carbon steel at about the same price point. I wouldn't buy one, even with a steel upgrade(like s30v), at around a $100 price point. I'd get a para 2 instead(ooops, I have one or two already).
