Tenacious vs Native III vs Delica 4

That's a tough choice, I have all three but the Tenacious goes with me more often than the others. For me, the Delica and the Native stay home as I can't bare the thought of losing either one and so my EDC knives are generally sub-$40 knives. If you want to stay in the Spyderco family, I have a Byrd Crow that gets carried often when the Tenacious is too big.

I know it's a waste to have the better knives sit in the safe but I'm still fairly new to EDC'ing a knife and my sharpening skills are still poor. I'm learning on a cheaper blade until I get better. :)

I have the Tenacious, Native 4 and Endura but want to add the Delica to my EDC rotation. If you want a nice slender, easy carrying knife for EDC, the Delica is a fine choice. If you want a knife that you can choke up on for more control, the Native with its finger choil offers this. If you want a larger knife with grippy handles even when wet, the Tenacious fits the bill.

Now as far as features, The Delica and Native have better steels but the Tenacious' steel is just fine with just a bit less edge holding ability. Besides, you can practice your sharpening skills ;). I find the Tenacious to fits my hand better for more demanding/hard-use cutting. Also, for one-handed operation, I find the liner lock to be easier closing. These 3 knives are very different is design philosophy as Sal stated. Get them in hand if you can to get a feel for them.

In the end though, I think any of these 3 will serve you well.

My advice is skip the lower end knives and buy the Caly III that you really want. It will save you money in the long run because you're going to buy it anyway or wish you had.

I want to thank everyone who gave me some valuable advice. I ended up taking kuro's advice sort of. I got the Caly3 (G10 SE - I wanted the CF PE but I'll get that later) and also the Para Mil D2. I can't believe I went from deciding between 3 cheaper knives (tenacious, native, and delica) and ended up with 2 higher end models (caly3 G10 - SE and Para Mil D2). I actually decided on these because of all the praise I read about them and the fact that the caly3 was super cheap and the para mil was a limited run. I wanted to get these before they became unavailable. Anyway, I already have my eyes set on more Spyderco knives. My wife is going to kill me...

Doh, I forgot that I got my wife a knife too! I got her the Byrd Starling. It's very small so she shouldn't be too scared of it. My wife is terrified of knives, so I wanted to get her something tiny so she can get used to it first. After that, I'll probably get her the Ladybug or similar. BTW, I haven't been able to find much info on the Starling. Is that a good/decent knife?
