Tent or Hammock

Jason got me turned on to the idea of the hammock thing, but with weather and the Boy Scouts, I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I have an ENO SingleNest, yanked out the attached biner things that came with it and replaced them with some whoopie slings, then ordered a metric crap-ton of heavy duty 1" webbing, which I am fashioning into some straps to go around the tree. Good luck if you go with it, while I haven't gotten to use it, it definitely takes up much less space in the pack than a tent.

Wow guys, lots of great responses.

I am definately going to get a hammock now.( i never liked dealing w/ tentpoles anyway)

l'm liking the idea of a top loader, with a detachable mosquito net. very versatile.

I was showing this to my wife and...well...is anyone sleeping doulble, or is that asking too much from a hammock?

There are a few on Hammock Forums that manage to sleep double but they are the exception rather than the rule. I wouldn't want to try it but if you REALLY like to snuggle (person A laying mostly on top of person B) it might work for you. I wouldn't plan on sleeping side by side.

Having said that, there are specialty hammocks - can't remember the name - that could help. One is basically a pair of bridge hammocks mated - it's expensive and heavy but it you can double up in it.

A more typical strategy is to find three trees, tie the the head ends to one tree and the feet to the other two. Close but not claustrophobic.
