Anyone help me recall the name of a short lived series of books in the 80's or early 90's, about the crew of a US Military Armored vehicle, traveling around the USA after an apocalypse, trying to return things to order and using hidden military storage places to resupply?

I would like to know too, sounds very interesting, kinda like Warday but with soldiers traveling instead of two random dudes.

Could it be Johnstone's "Out of the Ashes" series?

Nope, I was (still am) a big fan of the "Ashes" series..until they got to weird, but this was a different series.

The main characters were a 4 man crew of what I think was a high tech Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and one character was a walking cutlery store.

Maybe ran 5-6 books, and the covers were always a pic' of the vehicle with a lot of American Flag themes.

Definately the Guardians by Richard Austin. Vehicle was a Cadillac Gage. I have them all, 2 sets actually.

Once again the collective knowledge of this forums proves to be an inspiring thing

Sounds like a good read :) and don't forget to properly pronounce TEOTWAWKI (Tee-ought-Waki) :D

I sometimes wonder:
Do guys in Hollywood have inside info or foresight that we don't have or does the military watch too much Sci-Fi and get ideas.

Anyways, I would like to read that Guardian thing

That's funny... I always hear it in my head as Te-oh-TEE-wah-KI

Sounds like a Mayan deity... TEOTWAWKI the "Bringer of Doom"

Well, you're a smart fella, then. I was watching this special on Discovery or TLC about future weapons systems and especially non-lethal and less-than-lethal weapons systems. About 15 years ago. They had these two old hippy liberal types, that was the appearance...but inside of many people is a tyrant just waitin' to pop out! Anyways, they were Sci-Fi authors and they were actually consultants for the D.o.D. and they were coming up with sticky foam ideas and a host of other things...soon to be used on us. :)

One of my grandpa's axiom's was
"Today's science fiction is tomorrows science facts, someone has to dream it before it can be built"

Buck Rodgers is a good example of this.
