Before you smear an honorable man's name, why don't you make just a little more effort to reach him than simply through e-mail.

Terril has the same ISP (RoadRunner) that I do, and they've had some MAJOR problems with their e-mail servers recently, including lost and bounced e-mail messages. See my reference to these problems in this thread from a few weeks back. This could be part of the problem.

You can find Terrill's studio phone number on my website. Please use it.

And please make EVERY EFFORT to resolve your problems before smearing someone's name in this forum.

BTW - Terrill is one of the most respected people in the knife industry. In addition to his moderator duties over at KnifeForums, he's been the official show photographer for the Southeastern Custom Knife Show, the PKA Show, and the Spirit of Steel show. His photography has been featured in all three of the major knife magazines, the Knives Annuals, and the Knives Digest annual. I'm also proud to call him a friend.

GTXL - Give Terrill a call at his studio 704.364.0249. If he's not there leave him a message and he will most certainly call you back. Terrill has done work for me with photography for my articles in Knives Illustrated and in the short time I have come to know him, I have come to know him as a man of his word. If email didn't work, please try calling him and establishing contact that way before dragging his name through the mud.

Yall know it's sure hard to say the right thing when you feel like you have been taken and can't find the guy. In this case you now can find him and he sure sounds ok. Now you know all you had to do was post here for help. It happens to us all when buying and selling on line. Lost mail, and whatever. Everyone here does real good at looking out for each other. So when ever there is a problem ask for help first. You know thats goes for all of us. I must say as a group of people KNIFE NUTS are ok. Ed

Well said Ed.And thanks again for everyone's support and help. I hope it is an internet problem and nothing serious is wrong and Terrill is ok.

GTXL, you are wrong posting this here.

First of all, you didn't loose anything and posted "BEWARE OF THIS GUY!!"

this only makes youlook bad.

I would not deal with you because of this post.

Sometimes a simple post calling for someones attention in the General or in this case, the 4 sale/ trade forum will do just fine to avoid any potential problems. Works quite well.

Hey Mr. GTXL, I dont know who you are because you are not using your name. My name is Mike Snody I dont post much but felt compelled to jump in on this one. Since you choose to post some B>llsh/t like Beware of Terril Hoffman he wont pay let me share a couple of facts with you amigo. I have given and sent Terrill about a dozen knives for photography the value of these knives ranged from $100 to $500. A very close friend of mine recently sent Terrill a knife to be photographed, the knife sold for $3500 two weeks ago. Terrill has bought my knives. Terrill is a stand up guy. How many people send you $3500 dollar knives to play with Mr GTXL? You cant hurt his reputation with your post.I dont know what kind of deal you had with him and personally dont care but if you are a man of honor you will issue an apology on this thread and work your personal problems out somewhere else.

Dexter,

I think you should delete this post. The title alone could give people the wrong impression.

The guy just panicked and jumped the gun. He probably had no idea who he was talking about. It will get worked out, but even erroneous posts can do harm.

Terrill is the moderator of the photography forum at www.knifeforums.com If all else fails, you may ask him to contact you by posting on that forum. I would ask nicely and not get nasty. He has posted recently, so he does not appear to be dodging anybody. I would bet this is all just a failure of communication as many well respected people here also respect Terrill. Hope all works out ok.

Exactly. He cannot hurt Mr. Hoffman´s reputation. So why are you guys so harsh on him? Everybody can make mistake, don´t you think so?

And if someone raeds this thread - so what? He will make up his own conclusion and that is exactly what it is about. Please do not delete this thread - it is a good example how we should NOT use the GB&U forum.

I thank all of you for coming to my defense so fast. I just got notified of this post a few minutes ago, so let me have my two cents.
First let me apoligise to Brad (GTXL). He is right. I posted that I was loking for a small Case knife for a friend that collects them. He e-mailed me on saying he had one for $37.00. On Jan. 26 he e-mailed his address. At that point I should have sat right down and sent out a check. I am sorry but to be honest, I put everything on my desk and then let it skip my mind. I should have taken care of it. Rest arrsured that it will be picked up as soon as the mailman comes today.
I guess what shocks me is that ones reputation can hinge on $37.00. I never really look at this forum since I don't have a lot of complaints, but I guess from now on I will keep a closer eye on it. But I will look both ways. Simple mistakes can happen and I now have a better understanding of how. I hope everyone will keep that in mind when viewing these post.
Again let me thank everyone for your comments (I would of payed twice that just to be able to read your comments).

It always seems to me that the vehemence of the post is inversely proportional to the actual amounts involved.

I think Mr Snody owes GTXL an apology also. GTXL did the right thing as for this forum section is for keeping up on who does what to who in the context of trading and selling knives. He might have posted a little quicker than I might have, but this is in no way a reason to suggest that he HAS PERSONAL PROBLEMS THAT NEED TO BE WORKED OUT ELSEWHERE! as Mr Snody has suggested. Mr Snody also implied that GTXL is not worthy to post because he does not deal with expensive knives, in which he has no idea as to the extent of GTXL's collection. Also there are a lot of us who don't use our real or full names. SO WHAT?
I use this section to keep abreast of the risk involved in dealing with members I have not yet dealt with. I also follow the threads through because a lot can be cleared up with follow up interaction. It not only lets the whole story out but also gives meaningful insight to some of the other members who post to it.

I disagree. Brad's response was an overreaction. But he did it with intention. Mr. Hoffman, in contrast, did not intentionally back out of a deal. He made an honest mistake. Have you ever forgotten to do something important? I've done it many times. The GB&U should not be used as a first resort to slander someone. A better post would have been, "Does anyone know how to contact Terrill Hoffman? I've been trying to reach him but with no success", NOT "BEWARE OF THIS GUY." IMO, posts like that are a last resort. For all GTXL knows, Mr. Hoffman could have been sick, in a hospital, or in the middle of a move. In short, there are a lot of good reasons why he received no response and he should have explored other avenues first to try to contact Mr. Hoffman, instead of making his "BEWARE" post. It's called giving people the benefit of the doubt.

All is working out. It sure is nice to see a bad thread turn good. Terrell sure got a boost in his ratings. Looks like a good ending to the story. Lets keep it nice. I would say everyone learned something. What did Dad say think before you speak. You know old guys get old being smart.
