Test: Mora VS. Finn Bear

Jim, I really enjoyed reading this review. I've always suspected Mora is simply the best it can be for an inexpensive knife.

Good review - definitely a range of functional tests with a wide variety of materials. My only comment is that the initial factory sharpening probably played a big role in performance. It would've been nice to know how sharp they were initially, to judge edge retention.

I don't have the Finn Bear but I do have a Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife and a Roach Belly, both made from the same 4116 Krupp and I also have the Mora 760 in stainless. The stainless in the Mora is 12c27 that is RC 57 (Mora specs) and the Krupp is RC 56 (Cold Steel specs). The Canadian and Roach Belly both came with hair popping factory edges, actually sharper than the Mora was from the factory.

In actual use, there's not really any comparison. The Mora will stay sharper, cut longer, and touch up easier than the Cold Steel's with Krupp steel. The handle is 100 times better than the Cold Steel knives too. You can't beat the value in any Mora knife.

Damn... you guys convinced me to not spend any money on some shiny new CS knives :)
That's ok... I will divert the budget to some new Moras!

An interesting thing is that a Mora and the CS cost about the same in US when in Sweden the Mora is about 10 USD and the Finn Bear is about 40 USD.

The only thing I'm a bit bummed about is the lack of pics. Overall though, another good review from JNieport whose reviews I always look forward to.

They don´t make that series of Moras any more. Neither the 760,740 nor the black 780 Triflex (my favorite of the breed). The latter is a tad thicker than the stainless ones, but not much. Grab them while you still can !

The BushCraft (how i hate the word) is the "replacement", seemingly, but also more expensive.
