Your first photos were lousy because you didn't have enough light. Your later photos looked much better. You should be able to take great photos with a Lumix. Your first photos were underexposed and probably the camera warned you with a flashing light or something. You ignored the warning and that's why they came out all grainy. Always try to take photos in better lihgght. Overcast days - outside are best. Or else in open shade. My 2 sense.
 
Are you using the macros setting when taking pictures up close? It has a flower symbol. When you do, make sure you have a lot of light. (I try to always take my pictures outside.)

ok, i started with a loaner. i wanted to see the difference in clarity with the camera i owned. i admittedly knew nothing of the lumix when i took the early pics. i tried various settings as i was trying to figure the camera out.

there is an obvious progression as i was playing with the settings.

still learning, lots to figure out with this camera. i tried the various settings, including the macro, to see the difference.

for an inexpensive camera, it sure has a lot of settings.
