Just a short testimonial, for anyone who might have any interest...

I originally bought a small regular Sebenza back in 2001, and had been toting Benchmades since the early '90's up to that point. For whatever reason, which made perfect sense to me at the time, I decided I did not need a folding knife as perfect as the Sebenza (only carried it for about a week), so I sold it and continued carrying Benchmades.

In February 2002, a friend of mine convinced me to give the Seb another try. So I bought another one here on the forums, which was brand new in the box. Well, that time around, it stuck, and I've been toting the small regular Seb in the pics below ever since. I liked it so much, I've picked up some backups over the years, which I'm glad of since they've been recently discontinued.

My Seb has done everything from Tracker School's Standard Class to kid's school projects to processing game to... you name it. It wore to a point of about 40% lockup when new to about 60% lockup within the first year, and it's been at 60-70% ever since without having traveled any farther. It's been snorkeling off Grand Cayman, and may or may not have even defended my life once in Las Vegas. In most instances, if I cannot take my Seb with me, I will choose not to go there. And to be even a bit more OCD, I have a backup already packaged in my gunsafe, ready to be shipped to me should I mislay my EDC.

All in all, the Sebenza symbolizes to me a level of perfection that I'll never be able to achieve, but am lucky enough to be able to carry everyday. Having owned custom and production knives, it became and remains my first choice for carry and every day use.

For anyone teetering on purchasing a Sebenza, who maybe carried other knives for years, just do it. Life is too short, especially if you're a knife nut, to carry anything of lesser quality. If you're ever asked why you paid so much for a knife, ask that person(s) how much they paid for their golf driver, or their Iphone; then tell them that you'll still be carrying/using your knife when their stuff is sitting in a closet or drawer.

Signing off now, content with the fact that barring the invention of lightsaber-like pocket knives, I've found the knife for me. The pics below show my acid-stained, pocket-worn Sebenza, my Son's beloved Galayean Semi-custom JYD (a danged nice folder in its own right), and my equally battle-tested Seamaster, which I'd also recommend to anyone looking for equipment that will not soon need replacement.

Thanks, CRK, for your continued excellence, and many thanks to that friend of mine who urged me to give the Sebenza another try.

Professor.

Great post Professor !! i also read yur post about yur sons JYD...good stuff !!:)

That was just beautiful. I appreciate the Sebenza even more so now.

Thanks for the testimonial !! I am a HUGE CRK Fan, my only regret is that I dod not know about them years ago. I bought alot of CRK One Piece knives before I gave the sebenza a try. I wish I had bought it along with a One Piece knife many years ago. I carry my large regular with me every where I go except work ( NO knives allowed ) Other than there, its by my side. I got my first sebbie right before christmas and have added a few since. Everything CRK makes is top notch, One Piece, Sebenza, Mnandi....etc. Let us know what you think after another 7 years of great service !!!!!!!

That is a most excellent testimonial!!

I feel the Sebenza is about perfect! I LOVE my small Dog Paws.

Considering how much you loved your BM 705 before switching makes your thoughts on the Sebenza even more complimentary in my mind.

My experience is fairly similar; I carried my 705 as EDC for quite a while and thought it was pretty much the best out there. Then I obtained a small Sebenza, sold it to fund a custom, and now have come back to the Sebenza again as my main EDC.

If nothing else, the ease of disassembly and cleaning make it such a great EDC. Other custom knives that compare well with the Sebenza are much harder to disassemble and clean which makes me think twice before using them for any task where my knife will get dirty.

Yep, definitely loved the BM705, and still do. The primary reason I decided to move on from it (other than my friend's urging) was that, after having carried the 705 for a year or two, I broke it down for cleaning and the entire surface area of the 410 stainless liner that faces the overlying G10 was covered in spot rust. It was not easily cleaned off either. I've got sweaty mitts, especially when using a knife outside in the heat, and it was simply time to move on to titanium as a folder handle material.

The ease of disassembly was/continues to be a major draw and attribute of the Sebenza design.

It's hard to believe that other than aesthetic scratches, etc., a folding knife can actually improve with age and use.

Good story and nice combo!

i agree on the combination too! i have a seamaster quartz in blue and a small 21.

At a time when I can barely go a few days before switching EDC knives, its nice to see someone finding the "right" knife and sticking with it. I appreciate your comments.

been carrying sebenzas since 2001... There are other GREAT knives, but it comes out on top for me. I've certainly had a few "affairs" with other knives, and there are some that come close... real close.. but all things considered... Seb is the best!

I've had a lg reg BG42 since '98 in regular EDC rotation. Still rock solid and scary sharp. It goes well with my Seamaster Chronometer too.

The reason I stoppped carrying other knives was when I realized a small Sebenza was all I wanted or needed. When every time I asked myself what knife would be the best for a situation such as the office, going out with the wife, yardwork, or anything else, and I always picked the small Sebenza. It just has the right mix of everything for any situation, although it does suffer a bit from the jack of all trades but master of none. Such as slicing in stock grind, which is why I do have a Spyderco Lum Chinese in ZDP189. But that will never take over the full time edc role which the small Sebenza has taken.

An excellent testimonial. I too have been carrying only my small Sebbie for years now. As a matter of fact, mine is shipping back from CRK today with a second, damascus blade.

I look at other folders now and feel no great urge for them (we'll not discuss fixed blades, thank you).
