Just a short testimonial, for anyone who might have any interest...
I originally bought a small regular Sebenza back in 2001, and had been toting Benchmades since the early '90's up to that point. For whatever reason, which made perfect sense to me at the time, I decided I did not need a folding knife as perfect as the Sebenza (only carried it for about a week), so I sold it and continued carrying Benchmades.
In February 2002, a friend of mine convinced me to give the Seb another try. So I bought another one here on the forums, which was brand new in the box. Well, that time around, it stuck, and I've been toting the small regular Seb in the pics below ever since. I liked it so much, I've picked up some backups over the years, which I'm glad of since they've been recently discontinued.
My Seb has done everything from Tracker School's Standard Class to kid's school projects to processing game to... you name it. It wore to a point of about 40% lockup when new to about 60% lockup within the first year, and it's been at 60-70% ever since without having traveled any farther. It's been snorkeling off Grand Cayman, and may or may not have even defended my life once in Las Vegas. In most instances, if I cannot take my Seb with me, I will choose not to go there. And to be even a bit more OCD, I have a backup already packaged in my gunsafe, ready to be shipped to me should I mislay my EDC.
All in all, the Sebenza symbolizes to me a level of perfection that I'll never be able to achieve, but am lucky enough to be able to carry everyday. Having owned custom and production knives, it became and remains my first choice for carry and every day use.
For anyone teetering on purchasing a Sebenza, who maybe carried other knives for years, just do it. Life is too short, especially if you're a knife nut, to carry anything of lesser quality. If you're ever asked why you paid so much for a knife, ask that person(s) how much they paid for their golf driver, or their Iphone; then tell them that you'll still be carrying/using your knife when their stuff is sitting in a closet or drawer.
Signing off now, content with the fact that barring the invention of lightsaber-like pocket knives, I've found the knife for me. The pics below show my acid-stained, pocket-worn Sebenza, my Son's beloved Galayean Semi-custom JYD (a danged nice folder in its own right), and my equally battle-tested Seamaster, which I'd also recommend to anyone looking for equipment that will not soon need replacement.
Thanks, CRK, for your continued excellence, and many thanks to that friend of mine who urged me to give the Sebenza another try.
