testing chain saw - cutting fatwood

Keep in mind the harder longer lasting chains will eat wood for lunch and take it no problem, but the grit and rocks in the bark will chip the teeth making them cut poorly, same issue with carbide tipped blades.

Being frozen doesn't help either. IIRC the colder the gasoline the less power it provides when burned, so you'll use more gas in colder temps.
 
That makes for one messy saw. I have a saw designated for cutting pitchwood. These pictures are from two years ago, this was a 10' tree that was solid resin, I was able to get 4 really nice rounds off this tree and split them into planks, I cant find the pictures of the rounds, just the root. This last year, I cut up about 300 pounds to bring home with me.
