• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Testing edge-holding ability?

How about using carpet as a testing medium? If you could get a constant supply of one type of scrap carpet from a local company it would be free... And I noticed the other day that it seems to be very abrasive on a knife edge. I'm not an engineer so take what I say with a grain of salt, lol. Anyway, just a thought.

Its abrasive alright :D so much so that it really doesn't matter what steel you have, the edge will be gone so quickly it leaves no room for comparison between steels.

Ah, lol. Gotcha, I didn't think about that!

Plus, carpet has glues and various weaves of different materials which are not consistent. Thus reacting differently on knife steels. DM

KC, When stropping your edge, use a Sharpie and mark the edge bevel inorder to make sure your hitting it when stropping. On a finely sharpened edge strop on fine slurry and coarse slurry on a coarsely sharpened edge. Check the edge using magnification after a few strokes. DM
