I'm curious to see what kind of testing some of you do that give you the most fair, accurate, and repeatable results. Most of my testing is in the field or on some rope but I am getting ready to do some comparisons on multiple steels.

I want to create equal conditions that best test edge retention. Are you using jigs, scales, or any other devices? What are you actually cutting?

Thanks.

Josh,

I have done some of what you are fixing to do. About all I can add to the things to cut is rubber belting. I got a bunch of it from a rock crushing plant close to me. What I did find interesting was with the same test knives, cutting the same thing, I could determine which knife I thought was best. However, someone else doing the same thing, would think another test blade was best. Its tough to do with the human variable in place. Let us know what you come up with.

Bill
