how do the custom knife makers get texturing on their g10

For peel ply g10, I believe it's done when the g10 is made, by putting some sort of mold over it so it forms with the texture on it.

Disclaimer: I have never done this but this is what I have read.

If you want a cross pattern, then you use a file. However, you can get a reasonable amount of grip by bead blasting micarta, at least.

As hard as G10 is to cut with a saw, it's pretty easy to texture and shape with a file.

I used to use textured g10 for the handles on my neck knives. I just bought g10 that already textured.
Sure made great handles for small knives!!!
