Texas Gov. Perry Signs Knife Rights Switchblade Ban Repeal

Should have never been illegal in the first place. If it wasn't for senator Estes Kefauver showboating in the Senate with a huge display style stilletto, mis-representing them as the type gangs used, they would have never been illegal.

I tried to guess why automatic knives are illegal in so many places, and the best thing I came up with is because they are accidents-prone. An out-the-front automatic knife is more likely to accidentally engage than an assisted opening model. This could be dangerous for the carrier if the knife is put in a pocket or backpack and accidentally engages with enough force to penetrate through clothing and skin. I don't know much about automatic knives, but does that sound reasonable to you guys?

I assume that you have never handled an otf auto before.

Exactly. The one I have now has a safety that can be engaged with the blade in or out. Just not going to fire accidentally, period. The other two I had and sold, both Microtechs, the button had to be pushed so far to get it to fire, no way it could happen inadvertently.

But the switchblade law was enacted so long ago, and most knives back then had no safeties. Yet some of the old ones I currently have seem safe enough to me.

No, the switchblade laws were originally enacted because they were the favorite weapon of gangs.

Unfortunately switchblades are still regulated at federal level, which means they cannot be legally purchased online from an out-of-state vendor.

Does anybody know of a good dealer in Texas? I'm looking for an HK Epidemic (OTF) and an HK MP5.

I always see autos for sale to LEOs at gun shows, and there is no shortage of gun shows in Texas.

Thank you. I'll check Collector's Firearms and see if they can do a layaway so I can pick it up after September 1st.

xds, in Austin check with GT Distributors. I played with an HK Tumult there. I'm sure they can order the Epidemic. Lots of goodies in there.
