Texas Knife Supply

I got an order back from them a week or two ago. Everything was there and right on time including the two knives I'd sent to be heat treated. The heat treat seems to be very good too.

I have made many orders from them and never had a bad experience. That said, K&G is just as good and usually a bit cheaper than most all the others.

The whole story hasn't been told here. I emailed Jim Lemke about this thread, because I have had nothing but good service from TKS and wanted him to know there was some grumbling being aired in a public forum. Here's some of his response:

"I called him last week and asked if the problem was solved to his satisfaction and he said he was happy .............We gave him a full refund on his shipping charges.

I don't know what else I can do ...........You know I will always go to the extra effort to keep my customers happy because it is
easier to keep and existing customer than find a new one."

I think it's unfortunate that Jim's extra efforts on the customer's behalf weren't volunteered in this thread. :(
Yes he did call about a week later, and I was credited for one shipment(the 1st shipment that was late). He called me and that was all. I made my next order with Sheffield (with reg ups) and received it with no problem and on time. Prompt service is everything. I didnt feel like crying more about this. I paid for my first shipping charges (my 1st order was late) and I gave them another chance. My business goes to Sheffield. I only ask what I give my customers in my business. That is all I have to say in this thread.

BBoogers,
You mentioned in your original post that you were shorted on the nickel silver you ordered. Was ammends ever made for that as well as your shipment? Just curious on their customer service...

I emailed them about the shortage and nothing was said. I've ordered 2 times and both were not shipped for 2 days after receipt of the order. Its not that big of a deal. In the beggining of this thread I wanted to know if anybody else was having this problem. There are several knife suppliers to go to and they all have about the same products. The bottom line is service.

TKS is not emailed based it's new to them. you keep e-mailing
and them having e-mail delivery problems this seems
to be your major service(contact)problem.
call their -800# talk to lance or Jim you'll get your service.
if you called and said everything was OK then ??
use the right channels get the right service.
it may be like someone trying to do business with
you from a CB radio do you have your CB on? many people
have ham radios are you a bad business because you don't cater to these guys.
.. keep your mind open and clear..

I've worked with the public for well over 20 years, and not all customers are right,
yes PR can make or brake a business but if someone comes off wrong and want to
bash my business and I'm going to cut all ties with them and hope he goes away..
read the polices ask questions be nice shi++ happens,
if you don't like what you hear then go else where.
BB this is not directed to you personally just some thoughts when customers buy
any product with any company.
this thread should end..

If you read my first posting,I wasnt bashing anyone. I only asked if anyelse was having problems. Judging from the emails I received personally (they didnt want their name on the thread) and the ones posted perhaps there is. I dont have the time to sit on the phone contacting people about a problem that should have never happened in the first place. The only reason I ever posted anything in the first place is because they were the first knife supplier I had gone to, I ordered from them twice, and both orders went out late. You like them thats great Im sure there are alot of others that like them and use them. I havent lied about anything,I was shorted on some material and I could care less if I get the remainder. I ordered from Sheffield, the order was on time and delivered as stated. I will not post anymore threads on this subject.

My experience with TKS - two web based orders. Prompt delivery and complete orders. I have a lot of internet shopping experience from computer resellers. Shite happens with every vendor sometimes it seems. Being a rotten employee myself I can understand why.

The response to problems is paramount. A personal phone call seems marvelous. So does shipping in two days.

That said - What do you call a 10 gallon hat sitting on a pair of boots? That'd be a Texan with the bullshit knocked out of him.

here's my two cents worth. I've been using TKS for the past three years. no problems. I've ordered by phone and by the internet. I haven't sent in any blades for tempering, so far i can do those myself. I've gotten good results. Sorry to hear about others not having the same good luck. Perhaps, it may be better to call them direct if there is a problem without relying upon emails? --Dan

One time, I even placed an order a bit late before going to a knifemaking class on the other side of the country. A few days before my departure, I realized that the stuff would arrive too late. I called them and asked them to change the address. When I arrived in North Carolina, the stuff was there, perfectly packaged and labeled.

Apart from that I tend to agree with Blackboogers. If you have an internet channel, you should assume full responsibility for it. You only have 1 brand, not 1 for the phone orders and one for the e-mail ones. On the other hand, I wouldn't expect them to be as efficient and smooth as Amazon.

The other thing I've learnt is that often an entire package might be delayed because of 1 of the items being out of stock. Plus most of those small companies don't carry a huge inventory nor have good inventory controls. So it's always worth it to call.

All the orders that I have placed (mostly over the internet) have been filled promptly. Once some grinding belts were out of stock and they called me to apologize for the delay and let me know when the order would ship.

I hope you'll call them. I'm sure that they don't want unhappy customers. Good Luck!

PS - the times that I did really want to be sure to get the items within a certain time frame, I did pay a couple extra buck for second day shipping. (I'm in Michigan)
