Since Texas Knifemaker's Supply is closer to me I was wondering if anyone has sent any knives to them for heat treat, especially folders. Please post your experiences and opinions. thanks.

I sent 2 hunters to them (ATS34) heat treated and cryo treated. They turned out very good, better than any production knives I have used in ATS34. They were also prompt, and had the blades returned to me exactly when they said they would.
Folders shouldn't be any different other than pricing. If you go to their website its all laid out, there is an additional charge for folder peices besides the blade. Not an issue if your making linerlocks and use Ti, or can heat treat the liner yourself.

I use O1 now and do my own HT. Saves alot of money, and I'm starting to like O1 blades. If I do any stainless I'll be sending it to TKS though (unless I was doing enough to send an order to Paul Bos, his pricing is different), I've been real happy with all my business with them.

I send them all my stainless.I do my own on carbon steels.I think the service is great and the price is fair.Dave

Well, I guess I will put in my two cents................

Paul charges $3.50 per knife plus return shipping, WHICH INCLUDES CRYO TREATMENT..............those other guys charge extra for cryo.

Paul has a minimum, which might be a problem for a lot of the hobbyists here, but his price is very good. In fact, no one does them for cheaper AND he straightens your blades if they tweak in the furnace.

My turn! TKS has heat treated all my stainless too and I've had great results. If I were doing batches of blades I'd probably send to Paul Bos but for the few I ever do TKS is great. I've done a whole lot of business with them.

Dave

I wasn't trying to imply anything bad about paul bos. He's the guy I'd send them to if I was doing large numbers. Doesn't work out when your only doing one or two blades here and there though.
