This 2003 brochure says a 98 pattern and looks like a 3 9/16" 89x series slim stock knife.

Does anyone know if pre 2004 Texas Ranger was actually produced with jigged bone handles? I've seen a few trappers with wood handles, but don't think I've seen one of those in bone either.

This 2002 brochure looks like the same knife, but states it is 4", which is probably a misprint. It is the same picture.

Does anyone also have access to the 2003 catalog and see what it has listed for Texas Ranger knives? I can't say I've ever seen this guy for sure.

Hal, beyond agreeing with you that "4 inches is probably a misprint," I can only help you in this regard: I will dutifully keep my eyes peeled on a certain website for you and let you know what I spot. Meanwhile, I scored a 236 like your Delrin, but in bone. They are lovely little knives. :)

Thanks Calvin, I think I saw that one you're talking about, a dark peachseed? That 236 series is a sweet pattern, it's like a peanut that did a little body building.

On the Texas Rangers, I had a chance to win a trapper one night in the last year or so, but decided it was a going a bit high. It was wooden handles. I think if they did a slim stock it coincided with the Cigar Box stockman that came out around the same time frame.

I wasn't far behind you on that 236 Calvin, was that really bone? it was listed as composite.

my first impression of the pic was a "61" "861" series????
took me awhile to get this laptop woke back up after several months of hibernation!!

Glad you came back Brady. You know, if they made that knife, it very well could be an 861. Even more reason to find one if it exists. The 98 number in the brochure is not really ringing a bell with me.

Schrade also used the 98 designation on the stockman knives used in the original Cigar Box Classics collections. They only measure 3 9/16 inch.

The Old Timer equivalent to the 897 UH, the 825 stainless, and etc. is the 98 OT. That is probably where the number 98 comes from here.

Of course it is Calvin. Please excuse the "Blonde Moment" from the knife addict in Kansas. :o

I wouldn't worry so much thawk! The thing that threw it all out I think was the 4" length mentioned.
