Thanks to all for your responses, can't wait to explore Texas, I'll likely be asking lots of questions about areas etc. Thank you all, I know I'm gonna love it here!
I would be THRILLED to be able to connect with a Native American in the vicinity that could help teach me survival skills as they relate to the area......any ideas, or connections?
Welcome! San Antonio checking in. I don't know of any knifemakers but I do recommend the gun shows. You have to go by Nagel's gunshop on San Pedro Ave. if you are ever in SA. Nagel's is a bit of a local legend for knifelovers as they have several displays of knives some are customs.
The Saxet Gun show is in San Antonio this weekend at the Alfazar Shrine location on Loop 1604 west of US 281. There are usually some knife dealers and makers there. It can be hit or miss though.
Just got back from the Saxet Gun and Knife show in San Antonio. It looked like a good turn out of both vendors and customers. There were two or three custom makers there. Also several dealers that had some customs as well as some of the popular production knives like RAT, KBAR, Becker etc.
If you go, be sure to look up Don Mayer who does some real creative rustic knives and sheaths and also carries some of the Russell Green River knives. Don is a very nice guy and just had an article done on him in the July issue of Blade Magazine.
The Saxet Show is in Austin next weekend I think so there is another opportunity.
I will be in San Antonio next weekend...........we frequent and love the area. I have been going one-three times a year for 16 years and sadly have never made it to Nagels!
What little of it I have been able to experience so far (we're about 23 miles North of the city) it seems like a really nice city with lots to do, seems like if you can think of a restaruant or store etc. there's one here. And I must say everyone I've met here is very friendly, helpful, and nice......I think we're really gonna like it here.
That is what I thought three years ago when we moved here. There is a lot to do and the people have been great. It is nice to be able to live a little further out for the city but still enjoy it.
