I ordered a Typhoon kit from www.texasknife.com on the 18th ($69.95). I payed for there standard shipping ($6.95). I live in Frisco, not incredibly far away from Houston (where they are located)

I received an e-mail shortly after with my purchase receipt, saying the grand total came to $76.90. OK, cool, everything adds up.

I noticed on my bank account they ended up charging me a total of $82.48. What gives? Aren't online purchases supposed to be tax free? I've been buying stuff online for serveral years and in Texas I have never had to pay tax. If it says $69.95, I pay $69.95.

And if tax was supposed to be added, why did they not tell me this in the confirmation e-mail? I look at that as the dealer's agreement to my purchase. They verified my purchase of $76.90...and then charged me more without notification.

What should I do? It's not like the extra few dollars is going to but me out of my house...but I am a bit upset that they can charge my account for an amount I never agreed to. :grumpy:

i would e-mail/call them and confront them about the money charged. but first i would call and confirm with ur bank about the charge...just in case..

Texas businesses " have " to charge tax by law for Texas consumers if the business is registered in Texas,by phone, internet or mail, unless you have a tax exempt number filed with the State. It should state on the internet form that Texas residents "will" be charged tax.

You know, I believe I did goof up and this is my own fault. But this is my confirmation e-mail anyways...

I added "---" to anything especially private, that is the only editing done though. It said "0.0%" tax, which is what I chose from the website.

But I just went back and started to order something else, to look again at all the ordering pages. And I noticed this.

For orders sent to Texas, please select the tax rate for your area:
Texas Residents, Add 7.25%
Houston Residents, Add 8.25%

Below this is a drop down box that also contains "0.0%". I must have mis-understood it, I chose 0.0% thinking because I lived in Texas and it was not shipping OUTSIDE Texas, I did not have to pay tax (Like all my other online orders.)

My bad guys, screw up on my part.
