Texting and driving

Some people can, under the right circumstances, text quite safely while driving.

I'm sorry, but this is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. You can't text and drive at the same time; you're either doing one or the other. There's no way to be safe about it. If you're lucky the car will keep going in a straight line while you send a "LOL" to your friend. If you're not so lucky, kaboom! There shouldn't have to be laws about it, it just shouldn't be happening. Just like there shouldn't have to be a warning label on roasted peanuts that says "Warning: contains peanuts" unfortunately people are stupid.

Some people can, under the right
circumstances, text quite safely while
driving. They're the same people that can
operate their car stereo or talk while
driving, and may even be the people that
know when it is or isn't safe to do
something in addition to driving.
They're also as rare as hens teeth. For the
remaining 99.99% of the population,
texting and driving are mutually
exclusive. FWIW, I can hold a
conversation while driving. Just expect
pauses when I'm wholly occupied with the
road.

Those who text and drive are the same as those who drink and drive. Technically, they might agree that doing it is dangerous, but they inevitably 'know' in their minds that they themselves are the exception. They alone are smarter and more able than everybody else on the road. You can always spot someone texting and driving...their heads are looking down more than up; they sit still in front of you when the light turns green.

When someone double-tasks something like driving and texting/phoning, they may think they're being clever and using their time wisely, but they're not being clever at all. They're being very stupid. Because not only are they doing both activities poorly, but more importantly, it endangers everybody else on and even off the road. If they were only endangering themselves alone, with possible consequences only to the guilty party, I really couldn't care less. But that's not the way things are.

I've also seen dimwits brushing their teeth, eating their breakfast, and doing their hair while speeding down the freeway.
