Textured fighter

I like the textured look. Not every knife, but I sure like variety. This is distinct and well done.

I would be proud to have taken that shot. Nice composition and the background coloring brings out the best in the handle and damascus. Green with envy...! :D

I love texture and patina..a beautiful original design..not for everybody perhaps but important for a maker to develop designs and treatments.. in hand when you get to take it all in up close and you run your fingers along the textured blade feel how the hand locks onto the handle and how its perfectly balanced..thats how you appreciate a blade like that...Nice one Nick

Thanks again everyone.

Like I mentioned, I knew making this that the texture would be love/hate.

Well, it's balancing more towards hate/love ;)

The fellow that bought it on Friday at the show seemed to like it alright ;)

Peter, I could point out that you sent me a PM back in January that you wanted this knife! :p Indecisive? LOL

I'll be making more like this as time goes by. Heck, I've gotta do something to keep you guys on your toes ;)

Edited because I meant to say that is a beautiful knife. Everyone who doesn't like it must be nuts.

Hey, thanks for the puking face, that's classy :)

-Nick-

I guess it's just odd to me. When I see something I don't like, I just don't say anything. Different strokes I guess.

There's nothing wrong with saying that something doesn't turn your crank, but there is no need to be rude.

Hey Nick, I was looking at that blade real close and I seem to see an inclusion about three inches from the end of the blade and about half an inch from the edge...

...just kidding.

The guys who don't like this knife probably put salt on their watermelon or ketchup on hotdogs. :D

That knife package is gorgeous!

The first ones that I saw were from Phil Baldwin and Don Fogg. Nick and I were chatting about this one before Reno, and then I saw it in person.

I absolutely do not care for the look, but, I think that Nick did it more decisively, and skillfully, than any that I had ever seen before.

I don't understand what is wrong with letting the metal pattern speak for itself, without gilding the lily, so to speak. It is kind of like having a great piece of wood, and then painting over parts of it, IMHO.

Still say that you did a great job, Nick. I just hope you don't feel compelled to do a series of them. :)

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

I've decided to do ALL of my knives like this from now on! LMAO! :D

Thanks Steven, Keith, and RWS. It's a good day when you get Steven to say he can appreciate something he doesn't like! :D

I'm not thin skinned. Steven is aware of this from our hilarious phone chats, but I suppose I'm coming off that way. I figure there are plenty of folks that HATE the knives I make, and I'd rather have them tell me than be two faced. I guess it was just the puking emoticon seemed a bit much.

I have been puked on before, literally, and I gotta say, it's not what I would call a first rate experience :(

The one thing that is ironic about a piece like this, is the fact that it looks like you simply did less work. When actually, it takes some extra work to pull it off. Well, for me anyhow.

Thanks fellas :)

I think it's an awesome knife Nick. The texturing is a great effect; it provides nice contrast between the smooth profile lines and the rough finish.

If you want to make another, make another :).

I like it - very organic. Makes the knife look like it grew up on its own, like it's alive, instead of having just been "made" by some really vain guy with a girlish smile who likes to flex in fromt of the mirror. :p

As usual, Nick, I think you pulled this off with exceptional style and balance.

Beautifull knife Nick.
Joe Keeslar does a file knife he calls the "Paradox". I think this name says it all.
A textured knife with a gorgeous hanlde and high finnish on the finnished parts is a stunning paradox. Also these knives are born out of fire and force. Why make them all look machine made?
Adam.

Nick,

I don't usually say anything when I don't like a knife either, but just to give you some more feedback, I think the texturing is too deep. Otherwise it looks great. Nice wood and overall flow.

LOL, Keith, even I gasped in horror. I can only imagine what Nick felt until he saw your raspberry'ing emoticon!
