Texturing G10

Bead blast it for a uniform, grippy texture. If you were careful to keep it even, a scotch-brite belt would work. I've played with the latter a little bit, but blasting always works.

I might try to heat up a metal screen or something and melt a pattern in it for grip. Just what comes to my mind atm.

If sandblasting, do you finish out the handles, sand blast, and then affix to the blade? Or is there a way to protect the blade finish if the handles are already attached? I usually affix, then shape all handles.

Cardboard and tape. Use the thin stuff that cereal boxes are made out of, a few layers and some clever taping and you have a poormans sheath and a protective cover.

You can just tape it off, yes. I usually screw construct knives that have G10, but not always. It's especially easy if you plan to finish the knife with a bead blast ;)

The media won't penetrate masking tape unless you're being really aggressive with it. By the way, I just use aluminum oxide for the handles, never tried anything else.

I found silica sand too aggressive but fine glass grit works well when blasting my G10. Test a piece first.
