TG fresh out of Heat Treat

That was what I thought... although this one isn't sharpened to it's final stage it is ground down pretty thin.

I wonder if this causes any problems making the thinner parts heat treatment different than the thicker parts? How does that affect performance?

.

I would guess that it is in the oven long enough to be the same temperature through out the blade, but when removed, the areas with more mass will cool at a slower rate. this picture may be just before quench, and then the stress relieve at a lower temp.

Just looked at the picture again, and the edge and handle (thinner sections) are hotter (red in color), than the thicker sections (yellow). Yes or no? Sometimes dyslexia gets the best of me.

Yellow is hotter. The edge will suffer some carbon lose, or carbon steels would. Not sure on the infi. The thinner sections cool faster that's why they are red. I'm sure that after this the blades are finish ground to put the edge on after tempering and cryo. Then they are most likely bead blasted, coated, and sharpened. Right before sharpening handles go on and makers mark put on. Bam, Busse knife. Depending on a lot it would look like the steel is heated to a pretty high heat, beyond say 1095 or 5160. That yellow looks pretty bright, and its already been out of the oven long enough for the edge to cool pretty a pretty good degree.
