TG vs Ka-bar

I feel like this is a setup~ or someone is practicing for open mic night ?
:D - I'm in a real smartass mood atm so I'm not best suited to answer this one- still just a piglet :P

Nah...I was thinking of my nephew in the Marines. He asked for a Ka-bar for Xmas but I was going to give him my TG instead

In that case, you should acquire #1-Uncle status at minimum.
I will admit, the memory of my uncles gift as a kid, his Ka-bar - is what drew me to the TG line of knives.

Length/weight of the TG vs a KaBar might be a consideration, as we have read here over the years of length limitations on carry knives + the very real practical limits of the load-out weight. Maybe a shorter Bussekin makes for a better blade downrange?

As an Infantry Marine in the mid-late 80's, I went through 3 Ka-Bars.
1 was traded for a case of wine in Sardinia, 1 was unintentionally disassembled while in use, and the last is still with me, but by the time I got it, it got very little use before I got out.
Consider any piece of gear disposable. I'd save the Busse for when he gets out.

Marines are a curious bunch. Give us 3 bowling balls, and 3 things will happen:
1 gets broken
1 gets lost
1 gets pregnant.

I say give em BOTH!!! The legend of the Ka-Bar is far in wide in the Corp!!! Same as in the navy.

I immediately replaced my issued flight knife in my vest for the Ka-Bar my brother gave me on my 18th birthday. Then a few years later I replaced the Ka-bar with an ESEE 5... Then once I found Busse... Wellm, lets just say I'm sitting a little heavier now since I carry my FAT ASH-1!!!!

TGLB would be “The” TG imo or a Kabar made Becker BK7 would be a great choice too, imo :)

I was 2/6 Dragons Platoon 84-88 Semper Fi, brother. Carried my father's Vietnam Ka-Bar...he was a Marine Infantry Company Commander. We do tend to remember it with rose colored glasses. Thinking about it, I recall not being able to leave any gear laying around or it would find its way into the pawn shops outside Lejeune. lol

I just got my first FAT ASH last week...one badass knife.

The SJTAC. Not that easy to find used. Have seen two photos on BF of US soldiers with them in their kit when In Country. Good luck in your choice.

Crazy! I was a dragon gunner in 2/6 weapons platoon 1997-1998. Small world.

FWIW, I recommend giving him a traditional Kabar with the leather handle and sheath. You could also give him a multi tool like a Leatherman to go along with it. My Gerber multi tool is what I used the most.

A Busse is an awesome and a generous gift. And while there are always some thieving jerks around, I would be more concerned with some jackass NCO with a chip on his shoulder confiscating it because it’s not regulation.
