Thamr Samsher and Yuvraj M-43 for 1/22

I have a 17.5" Purna Dui Chirra and an 18" Kumar m43, both perform similarly, and haven't had an issue with it sticking in the wood withe either.

Just read your review on the M43. Looks nice! I'll add the M43 to my list of DOTD finds to keep an eye for.

My CAK is my preference when out in the bush. I'm not sure if the grind on my M43 is off, but the lighter CAK out chops it :/ I've gotta do a bit of work on my M43 then I'll give it another whack. But I'd go with the CAK as a good all rounder.

Nice sharking all, that Shamsher is a beauty though, isn't it? Ndog - snuck one under her nose, eh? Lucky you, and I do mean "lucky"...:)

Oh. And that samshar is amazing <3 shame I missed it. I work to buy khukuris, but miss khuks cause I'm at work :/

Great snag Danny :D:thumbup:

Well, since work is how most of us source money...love it...hate it...needs to be done :).

That samsher is seriously old school.
If you're having trouble with sticking when you chop, you can give the knife a little twitch (similar motion to snappong a whip-snap your hand shut to power the cut, then sorta twitch your wrist upwards like a kungfu chicken wrist.) as you finish the cut and that will usually disengage the edge from the wood.

Wow! Another amazing pice from Thamar, perhaps his best yet. That one reminds me of a full tang version of one of my favorite and oldest kukri:

I sure hope he's planning to make more!

Awesome; is that the original handle? Seems longer than what I usually see on these.

Wow. Two really good looking khuks. That Samsher is definitely a looker and a half. The M43 is really nice, too, but just can't hold a candle to my M43SB!! (Yes, I'm being obnoxious by bragging on my khuk, Bawanna, but eat yer heart out just the same.) You guys who got these two blades got your monie's worth! Congratulations!

Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana was prime minister of Nepal from June 27 1901 to November 26 1929 when he passed. Im supposing this is Thamars version of this style of traditional Khuk. Interesting that this one has a chiruwa handle. Cant wait to get it.
Nice set silverjohn! Cool to see them all together like that for comparison.

You keep bragging about that Samsher I'll have to open a Texas sized roll of duct tape to stop myself from intercepting the USPS shipment.

I've noticed the name Bahadur pop up a lot, does anyone know if it's a common name, or one of those names of region/religious significance?

Thanks to George MacDonald Fraser (one of the great historical novelists), I can tell you that it's an Urdu/Hindi word for "brave" or "warrior", and it's also a common name in Nepal.

Bahadur is a common last name for the kami's caste. Kind of like a Nepali "Smith"!

Kamis with the last name Bahadur I can think of off the top of my head: Dhan, Bura, Sher (and I'm guessing Yuvraj and Kumar too)
