Hello again. I wanted to take a moment and Thank EVERYONE for the responses I got to my question about which survival knife to get my son. Having gone through the thread together has taught us both a lot already and pleasantly given way to some really good mother/son discussions about knives, survival, Scouts, safety, & smart, funny people who take their time to share their knowledge and the surprising number of other knife lovers in the world.
He has not made up his mind as to which knife will make him the happiest at this time...but I will let you know when he does decide. I told him if he takes too much longer he might end up with a purchase order in his stocking instead of a knife. ( I just had a "new thread" idea...What kind of a knife do you suppose Santa carries? ;))
Thank you all again.

Although new, I am already a big fan of bladeforums, have shared the site with others and will be a regular, if not frequent, participant forever. I appreciate the info and the kind welcoming words very much. How could I not come back to look and read and learn and share?

And here I had been feeling a little wierd all my life...being a female and loving knives as I do.

Well we like to help each other out. Don't worry there are a bunch of knife loving females around here its normal to have those feelings. lol. Santa carries the classic Swiss Army Knife (or SAK for short) because it matches his outfit.

if i ask Santa nicely, will he bring me one?

+1 on Santa carrying a SAK. it's for all those toys marked "some assembly required" :D

Well, you'll get a lot more respect from all the knife-loving men here on Bladeforums:D My wife has a few that she has which she loves...that Mora 2000 is her favorite backpacking blade and she carries a Benchmade mini Griptilian in yellow:D:thumbup:

Do keep us updated on what your son ends up with...

Yeah, Santa's SAK, it's a legend.

Reminds me of that other seasonal question – How many pushups could Jesus do?

Glad to have you around. I think that is the common thread here...we all like knives. Some people know a lot about them, others want to learn, but we ALL seem to enjoy them.

You're welcome and glad you're here. Its a great place, and women with knives is not that uncommon, my wife loves her modded Ontario Pilots knife, and her tac folder. She gets looks from people when she pulls it out to cut something. She just smiles.

+1 on the Santa SAK, but what model?

Hunter. Never know when Santa is gonna end up in a survival situation, and need to pull an Empire Strikes Back on one of the reindeer to keep warm.

Thebeck, good to have you here. I hope you and your son can learn as much as I have from the people here. There's a great wealth of knowledge available here, I'd recommend taking advantage of it as much as you can.

My girlfriend is sorta getting into knives a little bit. I've been thinking about getting her a Spyderco Native. I want it for the S30V, she wants it for the pink handles:rolleyes: Right now I think her favourite knife of mine is the Spyderco Bill Moran drop point with the orange handles.

Glad we were of assistance, and glad you will be sticking around. As far as Santa, definitely a SAK. ;)

Glad to see you back, thebeck.

You guys are so lucky to have a knife-loving-female by your side.

As for Santa; I think he carries a SAK either a Locksmith (you know, to open the door in case he doesn't fit through the chimney) or an Equestrian (Reindeers need maintenance)

agreed thats way easier then converting them lol. i am sending a letter today!!

i am glad your staying its always nice to join the world of knife lovers!!!

and its obvious santa edc's Becker Tac Tool. (for all those houses with gas fireplaces haha) he probably just striped it, dura coated it red, and threw on some red micarta with white trim

duh...

Just so ya know we only discuss knives when we can see women are online...it's a macho thing.

When it's just us guys we usually discuss daytime TV and what colour drapes we are getting next !:D

Weird in a good way! :D

As to Santa's knife - I'm not sure about the SAK (but I'd bet it's a super tinker if he has one) but I know for a fact he carries a kris. That's how he got the nickname. He's Nicholas 'Kris' Cringle.

He's a bad man, Santa. Don't mess with him.

You gotta quit tellin' our man secrets. That's it, 1 demerit. Hand me your man card so I can stamp it -1.
