I know that this forum is the very best on the 'net, but once in a while I'm still blown away by the generosity of the members here. Today in the mail, I received a 2011 blade forums easy opener jack from our own Gus. Opening the tube, I was struck by the beauty of the knife in both design and execution. Flawless jigging, nice wide thin blade for great slicing geometry, and just a touch of utility by having a cap lifter and screw driver on hand.

I already put the knife to use, slicing up an apple for me and Pearl the wonder corgi, and it slices great. Can't wait to clean some fish with it!

Gus, I owe ya. What can I send you? One of my Peterson pipes? My old Zippo with my 5th army crest on it, carried for 35 years?

Thank you so very much, sir!

Carl.

Having had the pleasure of spending time recently with Gus, I am not surprised in the least to hear of his generosity.

Could not have gone to a more deserving individual - Congrats Carl!

Very nice gesture, I'd say par for the course around here but it's a little above and beyond. Carl that's a fantastic knife and I know you'll enjoy carrying and using it, especially since it's a symbol of some of the great people that can be found here in the Traditional Forum.

Way to keep it going Gus

That is awesome!!!

Maybe now you can see why my 85 single blade easy open is one of my favorite users!

Awesome of Gus to do that. Awesome of you, Carl, to show such an appreciation. Though I excpect no less from this group of gents.

I've been around various forums quite a bit over the last 6 years or so, but I've never been in one that the members are as generous as this one.

Congrats Carl! i love mine! and the tube graphics dont look too shabby either;)
Enjoy it and kudos to Gus for the selfless gesture, one of the many reasons i haunt this little corner of the forums
Hopefully the Pull was good for you carl? mine was about a 6 outta10 thankfully nothing like the 2010 Moose (which i adore) mine was about a 9, like opening a beartrap, need to wipe the brow afterwards, fortunately it has lessened some over the year or so with use
I'm sure you'll Run it though its paces

Awesome , I can't wait to see what the Peanut man himself thinks of this knife.
I missed out on this one, but I've been living vicariously through all of you guys.

I sure hope this knife inspires some new tales.

What an awesome gesture! From one great guy to another.:thumbup:

If you ever find a better community than this one, I would be shocked. We have some of the finest human beings on the planet amongst us here.
Nicely done Gus.
It really is a beauty isn't it Carl?

I have been a member here for few years, but don't post much at all (something I'm bad at with other forums too). I am pretty much your average, search for the info I need then make my purchase. Your typical Lurker really.

I have read a lot of wonderful stories and see the posts by the guys and gals that DO post on a regular basis. And say to myself, I need to be more active here.

When I read something such as this, it really makes me wish I did participate more in the day to day banter. Kind of like hanging out at the barber shop or local watering hole. Not that I'm looking for anything, but that I'm more a part of the overall experience and not just an outsider looking in.

Jackknife, I would love to hear about an outing with this newly aquired beauty and Gus, that is a most generous geasture indeed.

Cheers,
Jason

The pull on this knife is good and easy. I can just pinch open the blade with no problem. The screw driver was a little stiff, but I dropped some gun oil in the joint and worked it back and forth and some back gunk oozed out and it's a lot better now. My overall first impression of this knife is, after I got over the size seeming huge after carrying a peanut for a couple years, is one of very high quality. I love the geometry of the wide thin blade, and I touched it up on a fine diamond hone then strop. It's scary sharp now, and sliced through some jute twine like it wasn't there, as well as an apple, and slice up an avocado to go on our salad for dinner. It may even slice on par with an Opinel.

Carl.

Hi Carl,

Great write up! I knew if you gave GEC another chance you would be happy. The blade on mine has just been getting better and better. It pull cuts heavy rope like its not there.

Picture with your peanut?? Please?

:)

Gus is top notch. Anything I've ever needed or wanted to know forum wise he has helped me everytime with no complaint. His words of wisdom helped me out not long ago. He's one of the good ones and Carl is also a great man I call my friend. Congrats Carl. Will the damascus peanut be taking a short break?
