It has less play than when it was mint in box 1 year ago. After a year of Trashing it, Now I'm almost too afraid to mess it up again.
The scans don't show the mirror finish blade.
It looks too good to use...
When the blade was polished, do you lose any of the markings on the Tang? Mine looks like the Bali-Song and the butterfly logo could be removed if they were buffed over...not so much as stamped in the steel, more like printed on it.
Use it, Use it! I want to know how you like the new feel of the blasted handles. I really like how the blasted finish really removes all imperfections in the cast handles. I modified the pivot pins also so you can disassemble it whenever you wish. I also lubed it with Militec-1. The tang markings did not disappear it just lessened the contrast a little with the high polish. The markings are etched in so a fair amount of steel would have to be removed to get rid of them. I believe the etching goes about .002" deep. You are actually chemically "burning" the markings into the steel. Just to let everyone know, the wait for this kind of service is nothing. I can always squeeze these jobs in between rehandling since there is no set up in the mill.
Yeah when I did the mirror polish on my 43 it didn't affect the logo at all. Hmmm no wait huh? I have always liked the contrast between BB and mirror polish.
The logo is a little lighter, but it's still there.
The first production mark is gone, but it was barely there when I sent it, I had tried to "polish" some of the scratches off with steel wool a while back, and found out that the First Prod. marking wasn't done with the same acid etching, but just ink.
WOW!!!
I just looked at it again!!
Thank you so much Mer!!!
P.S. Flips like a dream... I love the handle finish! The new washers make it tighter than my near-new BM43blk.. Not more blade scraping the inside of the handles!! And the mirror finish is great!! When I smile at my blade, I can count my teeth!!
.012" thick. I make my own out of shim stock and a punch and die set. I can choose the I.D. and O.D. I'm pretty sure Andy's blade was .1875" and the fork spacing was about .026" wider so there's only about .002" of play to deal with after the new washers and that's very easily taken up with the screws.
I don't have a bali for me to play with anymore , it ran off to Mer's shop. Soon we will be back together my friend, don't worry, Eric will take good care of you. And when you get back all dressed up, I will take you out for a night on the town in the new ride that Clay made for us.
Damn Yoda none at all? I don't think I could do it. I'm going nuts right now because all three (2 with BM 1 with Mer)of my BM's gone. And I still have four balis left. I would have to go to some kind of rehab.
well...I do have a Bear with one handle but that doesn't really count. I got that 42 last year when I decided to shell out the $$$ to get a quality bali. With school costing me better than $35k a year, I don't have an extra 100-200 bucks to throw around. Just wait till I get me a job, the balis will be rolling in, muahahaah
