When I finally got my Sifu I contacted Mike Sastre of River City Sheathes about making me a belt sheath. He responded promptly, answered my newbie questions patiently, and got me the sheath in record time. I mailed my check on Monday and got my sheath on Saturday. That would be impressive even if he hadn't had to actually make the sheath during that time.

Aside from being helpful and prompt, Mike did beautiful work. The sheath he sent me is one of those rare pieces where the total practicality of the design results in art. Bottom line, Mike's sheath does the job simply and with elegance.

Meanwhile, I ordered a Spyderco Wegner Mouse for my wife from BladeArt (for an early Valentine's present). Since they had some of Mike's neck sheathes for the Mouse in stock I got one of those too. It is every bit as good as the Sifu sheath. My wife loves her Mouse and the neck rig.

I know that Mike already has a great reputation around here, but I wanted to add my voice to the chorus.

Thanks for everything, Mike!

Hey Bob....

I'll have to agree with you..

I met Mike for the first time at a show in Novi, and he's a hell of a nice guy...

We've been talking for quite a few months, and he's always been helpful, and generous and we've shared and traded some tips along the way....

You can't go wrong with Mike's stuff, and it's damn near as good as mine..

Bob - thanks for sharing your experiences. Mike definitely does top notch work and is a pleasure to deal with. I've got several of his Spyderco neck sheaths and won't hesitate to call on his services againi if I need any more. Plus, the belt sheaths he is doing for the REKAT Simonich Pikuni kick a$$

I would be happy to post a picture, but the CompactFlash card in my digital camera has gone south. As soon as I can fix it, or borrow a friend's camera, I will post a picture.

I got my digital camera working again, so here are the pictures I promised. Of course, it didn't occur to me until after I had finished that it would make more sense to shoot the sheath with the Sifu in it.

I will try to do that and post them later. For now, these should give you some idea of what the design looks like.

Note the full-size TekLok on the back. That can be adjusted to precisely fit any belt up to 2.25". Having the "belt loop" as a separate piece also allows you to attach the sheath to the TekLok in any of the four major directions and on either side with nothing more than a Phillips screwdriver and a couple of minutes time. I love the flexibility!

My sheath is currently configured for vertical upright carry, but I sometimes carry inverted and occasionally horizontal across the small of my back.

Thanks for posting Bob. I recently e mailed you. But these seem to answer the questions. Mike S. also contacted me. I am curious if you would have some time to test its retentive qualities with the pocket clip removed. If the fit and tension remains equal, then this would leave an option for the use of a clip or not. Thanks again.

I'm willing to give it a try, but it will probably be a few days before I get a chance. I am fairly certain that the finger grooves alone will provide plenty of grip for positive retention.

You may want to ask Mike Sastre. I'll bet he's tried it both ways.

Kin..

From experience I've found that the majority of the time,, if the sheath was molded with a clip in place, it will more than likely fit without...

The opposite however will not...

However,, if the sheath is using the clip and screws as a form of or a part of the rentention, then it will not as well...

The Sifu is one of those knives that has Tooo many places for retention, so SOP don't apply,,or should I say apply differently to it...

In the case of the Sifu,, there are a number of interesting possibilities for retention, and sheath configuration.

Hope this helps, and hope this is pretty much what Mike would say.

The sheath looks Excellent,, and knowing that Mike had his hand at it, you know it's been done properly..

Enjoy..
