Thank you, Mr. Fowler

Thanks for all the comments, gents.
Charlie, yes I believe Ed makes his own sheaths. It is a real piece of work. Heavy duty is an understatement. Should easily last several lifetimes.

An amazing piece of cutlery.

Congrats!

Yes, Ed does make his own sheaths. They are about as tuff as the knives and the knife sort of locks into the sheath so that it doesn't come loose and fall out while on horseback or something similar.

Rob, i have looked at a number of Ed's knives on-line. yours is the most attractive one i have seen.
The handles on Ed's knives always look like a handful and i have found that my hand tires with larger handled knives when doing a longer job such as field dressing which takes me about 1/2 hr. does it feel a little big in hand ?

Roland, the Fowler knives mold into your hand and becomes a extension of your arm. Hand fatigue is something that doesn't occur very often. With a custom knife maker like Ed, he'll make sure it fits you. All you have to do is tell him what you need. I have gone thru lots of his knives right off the table and found that most of them fit regardless of the size.

Ed Fowler is in a class of knifemakers shared by very few other members in that category my opinion. He is at the top of his field.. Ed Fowler, is to hand made custom traditional sheath knives, as is what Tony Bose is to traditional hand made slipjoint knives, imo.

The knife you scored Rob, is a very favored and popular size model by hunters and will skin and field dress game animals like few others. A fine traditional knife indeed. Great Score! Great photography too.

Incidental, I thought perhaps you all may enjoy a photo(a favorite)that I believe Kerry Hampton was kind enough to shoot and share in this forum from the back during the 2007 Blade Show in Atlanta, showing the Old Dog and the Old Pronghorn. Check out the knives on Ed's table. :)

Greg, thank you for answering my "hand size" question. now i know that if i see an Ed Fowler knife for sale, i can consider buying it. it would be one knife that i definitely would use for the pleasure of the experience. just as Mrs. Fowler uses her Scagel in the kitchen.

Rob,
That handle is beautiful, very nice photo. I usually do not like decorated bolsters, but that pattern does nothing but enhance. Great score. You only live once, so Carpe Knife is apropo.

CJ out.

Thomason: I am very honored that you like the knife and compliment you on the quality of your photographs. She will serve you well and my lifetime guarantee comes with her.
I thank all who commented on her and feel thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks.

There is a fine fellow whom I am Blessed to be acquainted with, that hunts and harvests very large brown Bear in the utmost northern parts of North America and utilizes an older Fowler sheath knife very similar to the model that Rob Thompson has shown here..

A very useful tool!

Rob, I just found this thread. It makes my day to see what you are sharing, and I know that a fine blade like that one belongs in the hands of a custom knife enthusiast and all-around good guy such as yourself.

Mucho congratulato elfriendo! That piece should slice jalapenos for your famous roadkill tacos like a Gillette. :D
