Tomorrow it will be one year that I “left” my job of 37 years, and went full time into being a knifemaker. I wanted to post this here, as this is where most of my friends and customers hang out. I`m extremely lucky to have a wonderful wife, who more than just tolerates my wacky ideas, she is my biggest supporter. There were a lot of doubts financially, but so far, I`m hanging on. I`m not going to get rich doing this, but the bills are getting paid, and if happiness, satisfaction, and friends were money, I`d be a millionaire! For the first time in years, I look forward to getting up, reading my emails, checking out the forums, and getting to work. I`ve had some good ideas, and some not so good ones, but overall it`s been a good year.
There have been some fun contests and giveaways this past year, and there will be more coming, it`s one of my ways of saying thanks to the people who make it happen.
In January of this year I got my own forum (thanks Spark, for making it affordable to the average guy), which has made it even more fun, thanks to the regulars, and some of their crazy ideas, and their great photos.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my customers and the many friends I`ve made here on BF for their support. Also, WILLIAM M. (Dr. Bill) who was the first to order a knife from me after I did a passaround of a Nessmuk , where he was the first volunteer, Reuben Bolieu, (bearthedog), who helped set up my website and wrote the article for S.W.A.T. Magazine, Mark Williams, who moderates my forum, and of course, Scott Gossman, who made suggestions and gave me ideas after his turn on the Nessmuk passaround. Without all of you, this would not have been half as much fun as it`s been. One year down, let`s try hard to make the next even better, and even more fun than the last!

Thank you,
John
JK Handmade Knives

As a proud owner of a JK Kephart, all I can say is; "You deserve it!"
Custom makers that really put their love, sweat and (Copious amounts of) blood into their knives will always be a success. Congratulations to you and your family.
Oh, and we should really thank you for the great knives that you make.

You rock, John. Here's to many more years of successful knifemaking. The active participation of our 'regular' makers is one of the things that makes W&SS such a great place.

I'm looking forward to getting my first JK knife next month. I'm sure it won't be my last.

Congrats on one year, and all the best,

- Mike

Congrats!!!

It took me a long time to make the leap into handmade knives. The two I have from you have pushed my productions into the drawer.

Great knives, great prices.

(Now that I have said nice things, will you put my EDC at the front of the line?) ;):D;)

Congrats John, I'm sure glad that you started making knives, or else I wouldn't have the knives that are easily my favorite right now. Keep up the good work.

Best of luck in the future, however with the quality of your knives, you make your own Luck. Your knives are the best of the best for constant quality. We have some real world class knife makers on this site. I am only sorry that I can't try them all. I do want to stay married.:D

Congratulations John. I'm glad to have stumbled upon you on the forum and can't wait to see what year two has in store for you. May if be just as fun, adventurous, and even more prosperous than the first. Thanks for being a friend and one hell of a knife maker! Cheers to you!

Congratulations on your success. I'm very proud to have and use knives you made. Here's to a second good year!

very cool John... congrats on living the dream....:D it's great having you here man....

Power to you for taking the big chance that everything would work out. Seems the popularity of your knives is growing daily here, and elsewhere. Hope you keep making knives for a very long time. Congratulations:thumbup:

Congrats John,

No journey is a lonelier and upper hill battle than that of the self-made business man. Glad it is working out for you. You have a solid product and you take pride in your work. Those are two needed ingredients in the business. You've also managed eek though an economic catastrophe that is still unveiling itself. If you can make it in the toughest times, chances are you will be able to make it when the going gets good :)

As a proud owner of 2 of your knives, I offer congratulations and well wishes for the next year.

Congrates John. You've progressed quite a bit in the last year.

Right on - you are an inspiration to everyone that wants to do what you have done.

Keep up the good work!
