Fellas:

Awhile ago I asked you BF members for help getting a hamon with more character. I received a lot of constructive help - here's the thread. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/979921-Techniques-for-Ghosting-and-Patterning-of-Hamons-for-Beauty?p=11150992#post11150992

This W-2 subhilt bowie is my first attempt using some of the techniques I learned from your feedback and the links you showed me. This is just the beginning and I can't wait to experiment more! I just want to publicly say thank you to you all for your gracious sharing of knowledge.

Best regards,

TK

Very nice!! The other were beautiful and so is this one! Looks like you are getting what you want with the hamon

Killer piece of Ironwood TK,the rest of the knife ain't bad either:D

Outstanding in every way! That is one tough looking knife, I am a big fan of sub hilt's. Great photography too, hamon's are difficult to get to show up on camera it seems.

Nice Tim! Taper tang, sub hilt, desert ironwood, hamon, what's not to love? Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Btw, a HUGE congrats on the big write up in the August Knives Illustrated!!!!

That whole knife is just about as good as it gets! Kudos.

Only suggestion for the future would be to switch to Corby bolts from the sleeve nut type. The Corby bolts don't show that ring on one side. I find the uneven ring a distracting flaw in the otherwise seamless look.

Beautiful work, TK! I do agree with Stacy about the Loveless bolts, but it is a beautiful piece of art none the less!

When I see them on Loveless inspired knives.... I think of Bob and smile.

 Really guys? Trying to get a Loveless guy off of Loveless bolts????

I've never used one, but if I ever make a chute knife etc I sure as hell will! :D

Did you nail this hamon your first try on the heat treat TK?

Stacy is not alone in his disdain for Loveless bolts - Les Robertson has been semi-successful in weaning me off them but every once in awhile I'll sneak some in. I like the hell out of them but the idea is not to limit your market and sell the knife.

Brian: Yep, I nailed it the first time - I have a digitally controlled oven so I took it to 1450 and Parks 50 quenched. I haven't had problems pulling a hamon before, they just didn't have any definition or character. I was putting on the clay much too thick.

Knife looks excellent. I browse through the Knifemaker's for sale area of the forum a lot and there are maybe five guys whose work I always make sure to look at if it's there. You, sir, are one of them.
