A small package arrived at Grumble Towers on Friday, all the way from Duncan in New Zealand, and amply packed with goodies.

Knowing of my love of army clasp knives, Duncan had included a smashing example by George Wostenholm. It lacks the standard can-opener/cap-lifter blade, which makes it considerably lighter, and also makes the sheepsfoot blade easier to open. Nice little knife :)

I don’t own one of the stainless British Army clasp knives, which are still made in Sheffield, and Duncan included a 3-blade model, which I’m also looking forward to carrying.

In contrast to the chunky clasp knives, Duncan also sent me this beautiful old Quilll knife with ivory covers. Even with a magnifying glass, I’m struggling to read the tang stamp (I can see the word ‘Cutler’, but can’t make out what precedes it). I’m hoping Duncan, with his NZ vitamin D-enriched eyesight, can enlighten me ;)

Taped to Duncan’s letter was a bronze medal depicting Friedrich II of Prussia.

Many thanks Duncan, you’re a great friend and an absolute gent. Our lucky penny is already crossing the ocean (for the 3rd time so far)! :D

I'll try to get better pics soon :)

Jack

Jack you are MOST welcome - what I am trying to say my friend is THANK YOU, the Sheffield trip is still so rich.

Dunc, a truly generous act to return these to their ancestral home and into the hands of a son of steel, Mr Black.

You are both top gents and it's an honour to have you on board our good ship

Nice, thoughtful gifts, Duncan!
Thanks for sharing them with us, Jack!

Jack, is the inside of the quill knife open to the end, or is it filled to the blade point?

Jack, your such a worthy recipient and Duncan you are such a gracious giver

As stated by other great members above, you two are valued brethren here :)

Hey Jack - I am so so Rapt - today is my birthday, and I have been extremely spoilt by my lovely family, but today I was surprised in two ways when I arrived at work, I had a birthday cake with everyone standing in the smoko room - and when I entered I was surprised with everyone cheering lol - but then there was a envelope on the counter by the cake - Meri said it arrived this morning - and yep...you bet ya it was from Jack!!!!! HOW WAS THAT FOR JUST PERFECT TIMING!!!

What timing!!! and yes my friend, the penny returns, and I dare say it awaits for a wee while before its return trip :D

Everyone - I must apologise as I haven't been able to take photos of the knives - and wont be able to until the weekend as its a terribly busy week for work -But Jack...Oh man the two knives you have sent me are just awesome!!!

I finally have an Ibbersons!! Stans memory is strong - Jack thank you so very much - what a great knife- Folks-Jack has sent me a Ibbersons knife - what would you call this one Jack? a semi Lobster-or Lobster? a great knife- the Violin Stamped blade is in great shape, the knife has a "crown cork opener", and a long thin spike - everything on this knife performs well - VERY WELL!
The next knife is something I cant see how Jack let it leave his hands - its his lovely and Very Old Sleeveboard by John Watts - now this knife is old, and its been well used, but is so much all the more beautiful for it, lovely old worn jigged Bone- I cant wait to take some shots...Jack my friend....Thank you...thank you so VERY much - what incredible timing for these two beauties to come home-sent in such a sincere and thoughtful way, your a great friend Jack.
I will soon put up a thread and combine the photos of these two beauties, along with another extremely thoughtful friends knives - a real Antique thank you Thread coming your way.
I am so lucky to be blessed with having such good people in my life-thank you Jack for being one of those people.

A belated Happy Birthday Duncan! Many Happy Returns my friend, and that is great the package arrived :)

Jack, is the inside of the quill knife open to the end, or is it filled to the blade point?

The Quest is still going on, I just haven't had time to write it up! :D

Happy Birthday, Duncan! Can't wait to see your edged presents.

Buncha good eggs around here. Very nice of Duncan.

Jack, the spike just seems so prevalent on the Clasp Knives..... why is that? I honestly don't know what I'd do with that spike unless I was Marlin Fishing I guess.
