A short while back I won Jeepnut's "5K Give-Away" contest. Shortly afterward I received a box full of fire starting kit items and patches. The two white sticks are actually vaseline soaked cotton in straws - I've wanted to try these out for quite a while. Very cool.

Fire straws work well and travel even better. Easy to put in a gear pocket on a sheath. I have an old ferrocium rod that I've been scraping into the vaseline/cotton mix for a little extra oomph. I took some pics a long while back.
