My only sibling was an older sister. Before my hand at scouting, I got to watch with envy as my sister was a brownie / girl scout and mom was a troop leader. Sis got to do cool things like makes smores around a campfire and own a Brownie knife! Fifty plus years later, my brother in law finds a box of old knives that had been stored in the kitchen above the oven. I remember playing mumbly peg with this knife. Over the years the heat from the oven had destroyed the plastic covers.
Normally, I believe in leaving family knives in the condition the family member left them, but in this case my sister hadn't intended for her first knife to end up like that. John L gave me some mammoth pieces but replacing the covers was more than I bargained for. Contacted one of the forums artisans, Glennbad, who agreed to replace them. I asked him to leave the patina on the blade, as it was put there by family. Not only did Glenn do an outstanding job replacing the covers, he polished the inside to better than new. The flight gloves are some of my old ones, they have a few miles on them too.
Thanks so much Glenn, you turned a piece of my family history from near destroyed into a family heirloom.
