I finally finished my first Hammon, and I wanted to thank everyone who's posts on the subject were a great deal of help. I spent about two weeks reading up on here and on Don Fogg's forum about everything related to hammons. That said here are my pics.

Also, so that I can contribute to the knowledge database here's what I did:

the blade was normalized three times at decreasing temperature.
thin clay coat as shown about .1-.125" heated to just over magnetic at night so I could judge the color. Then I did an interrupted quench using brine (10% salt, table spoon dawn, teaspoon jet dry) for about 4 seconds, then I pulled it out about 2 seconds before going into canola oil until cool. then after checking to see if I got the edge hard i tempered at 400 F for 2 hours.

The finish is a 2000 grit hand sand and a vinegar etch. I etched in vinegar for about 5 min then polished off some of the discoloration and oxidation. then repeated until I got what I wanted.
