Went down to Bethel Ridge Forge today and did some work with Fred. Had a hell of a good time and had my first experience with forging. With the help of Fred I got to forge out a hunter from W2. I have the firebug now! Fred is heck of a nice guy and spent the morning teaching me and my buddy ED beginners forging. He also showed me some heat treating on a few of my first blades. I am very appreciative of the time spent and hope to get back down there soon. I realized that I have a lifetime of learning ahead of me. The picture is of my buddy Ed and Fred. Thanks again!

Y'all are entirely too clean to be doing any real forging LOL

I don't know whether to welcome you or pity you for the addiction you know have. Either way it's a lot of fun.

Yeah I definitly think a welcome is in order. There's nothing like pounding on hot steel to brighten a day :D

Yeah we had a great time and learned a lot. I really never have introduced myself here although I did talk to a bunch of makers when I was selling my 5160. I am new to knifemaking and have been lurking on here for a while. I bought a KMG and have been playing with that for about a month and a half now. I get on here and try and soak up as much information as I can. I learned some tips today from Fred that will hopefully make my work progress forward.

Here are a couple of pics forged out of W2 round stock.

His power hammer and press were really nice. I told the wife I am going to have to start saving all my pennies:) I have been putting together a small forge, 6" tube, but after talking to Fred I think it is going to be too small. I also have a 9" tube that I am going to start on and hopefully get going soon. I know of an old lady who has all her husbands forging tools in the garage collecting dust I am trying to get.

Be careful, before I started going to Fred's I had my shop in one side of a two car garage. The wife had the other side, key word there being HAD.Now her side has the forge and airhammer in it.But on cold mornings I do go out and warm her car up.Fred has taught me a hell of a lot, great teacher, great friend.

Yeah he was telling me about you. He said you got the bug and have been doing real good. I only have one side of the garage right now too, but it is starting to grow slowly towards her side:) You can tell that Fred really enjoys making knifes and teaching. Maybe next time I come down we can meet up.

Hey my mothers maiden name was Burton. And it looks like you and Fred had a great time out in his shop working around the forge. Thanks for posting the photo to see. Have great day.
