Greetings you all,

Been reading all them stories by Jackknife and it has influenced me a lot.

A while back I bought a G10 handled Peanut in SS.
It wasn't perfect by all means; it had blade wobble in the main blade and the blades were(still are) off centered)
I corrected the play by wrapping the pivot end in a piece of cardboard and ligtly tapping untill the play was gone.
Now the pivot was visible and easy to feel, so I polished untill I couldn't feel it anymore.
Still visible but I don't mind that at all.

The strangest thing is that I've used that litle critter more already than all my Spydies combined together ;)

It's just so easy to carry and slides through anything almost effordlessly.

You are right Jackknife that you don't need a one hand opening tactical serrated folder.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my Spyderco's and will carry them on occasion, but for now I have enough of my Peanut and my Opinel no 6 in Carbon for my daily cutting tasks.

Funny thing: I have $100+ Spyderco's in my collection and my most carried at the moment are my Peanut and Opinel :)

Love your stories Jackknive

Just wanted to share this with you all ;)

I think that Jackknife has influenced a lot of people. I bought a yellow peanut as result as well. Don't worry about the blade play. It actually has a very good benefit. Enjoy

God Bless

Be careful dutch, you're on the cusp of seeing the ghostly light of the cult. If so, there's a 98% chance your sole will be lost to the folksy side. :D

So few ever return to 'normal'.:D

The next thing will be your lurking in second hand shops for old dented perculator coffee pots, cast iron fry pans, and maybe even taking up smioking a pipe now and then.

Amazing how the Traditional knives pull you back in. It was the Case Sway back Jack/ Bose knife that did it for me. And now I have 3 by Case and Have gotten 3 models by Rick Menefee; Okra, Serpentine Trapper and a Sway Back Jack. Just no going back after that. Slippies were my first love but Tactical/one handers side tracked me for a while.

Arend,

Good to see you in the folksy forum. :) I too am getting back to basics with the slippies.

If ya can, get a pic or two, I'd love to see it.

Later bud,
David

This thread got me to thinking. About two years ago, like spydutch, I fell victim to jackknife's evil powers or persuasion and found myself purchasing a knife I'd long scoffed at, a Case peanut. Of course, in no time at all I was fully under the peanut's spell, singing its praises right here online and elsewhere.

I wonder how many of us now own a peanut as a result of jackknife's proselytizing. Can I get a show of hands? Case ought to at least send the guy a bumper sticker or something! :D

I have several peanuts now and a Craftsman 4-way screw-driver because of Jackknifes stories about his Dad and his mighty peanut. I admire his resourcefulness and his approach to getting buy with what you have.

It is because of Jackkinfe's stories that I carry a peanut. It is an older Queen with roger jigged bone. The blades and back spring have a nice patina from use.

When reading those stories, I reach from my handy peanut and look at it thinking of simpler times.

Me too, I have a peanut because of jackknife, and also stated carrying my Craftsman 4-way screw-driver again because of him, although I had it for a while before that and had known of its usefulness.

But Jackknife is fully responsible for my peanut, and as I say often it is my one and only EDC 99.999% of the time. It's THE knife.

I have several peanuts by various makers. At the moment, a Case is riding in my watch pocket. The thing is, I almost never use it. It is just too darned small for my old hands to get comfortable with.

Thomason initiated me in to the Cult of the Peanut.
I started in high order, a S&M in Stag.

I cannot say I am fully intergrated until I have a Case in yella in CV.

I highly suggest that you get on that, ASAP. :D That's the best one. I like the peanuts too! A yella peanut was actually the first slipjoint that I ever purchased (I have been given several before). I bought it back in '99 for my girlfriend at the time, because she needed a knife in her studio. She wanted something little and "cute", and the peanut fit the bill nicely. I was big into "tactical" one-hand openers at the time, and there was no way I was gonna carry that little sissy thing. My girlfriend used and abused that poor little knife for several years, I think she actually used to sharpen it with her random-orbit sander when it got dull.:eek:That thing saw some duty!

I ended up marrying the girl, and she's still around. Gave me a son a while back. She had no appreciation for the little peanut, it was just a tool to her, so I "liberated" it from her, and replaced it with a Vic Classic, which still rides on her keychain. She's using cheapie snap-off blade utility knives in her studio, and couldn't care less about nice knives. I ended up polishing out all of the scratches on the blades of her old peanut, buffed out the dings on the scales, and have it looking almost 100% again. When closed, it's almost indistinguishable from the much newer, pampered yella peanut I bought for myself. There's a small pin crack on the older one, that's how I tell them apart. They're good knives- and can take a lot more abuse than you would expect.

Jackknife was not responsible for the first peanut I bought, but he might have had something to do with the 5 or 6 I've bought since!

I've got a yella case peanut and a red bone case peanut. Both in CV. I carry a peanut everyday in my watch pocket. I've been carrying the red bone one constantly these days. Though the yellow delrin is cool looking, bone looks and ages so much nicer. I'll have to post a pic of my jeans, you can clearly see the outline where the indigo has faded where I normally carry the peanut.

Jackknife has inspired me not just with the Peanut but with a great appreciation for ALL manner of Traditional knives, he has a rich wisdom.

Greetings you all :)

On friendly request from David Lowry(and because I like to share ;) ) a couple pics of my Peanut:

Here in combination with my current EDC.

Hey Jackknife: I won't smoke a pipe in the near future I'm afraid :p ,but I still roll my own cigarettes.
Tobacco has been made since 1782 :)
The Zippo was my first one and is about 23 years old. I have had my own name engraved back then.
The Peanut and the Opinel are new.

And here is an in hand picture:

Love the little bugger more and more :D

Interesting blend of old and new you have there dutch. Peanut with G10.

Hows the surface texture of the g10, and is a slick when wet?

Nice tobacco, my old man always smoked Dutch tobacco. Mostly Dowe Egberts brown Amphora. Some Flying Dutchman here and there.

Is the opinel legal to carry there, as it has a locking blade? I know nobody will object to the peanut, it's too cute.
