Thanks to Jackknife (my Peanut...) & Peanut Roll Call

Interesting blend of old and new you have there dutch. Peanut with G10.

Hows the surface texture of the g10, and is a slick when wet?

Nice tobacco, my old man always smoked Dutch tobacco. Mostly Dowe Egberts brown Amphora. Some Flying Dutchman here and there.

Is the opinel legal to carry there, as it has a locking blade? I know nobody will object to the peanut, it's too cute.

At least until June next year we are allowed to carry any locking folder as long as it doesn't exceed 28 cm when opened.
They are planning to put a ban on carrying "easy to open" knives, so no thumbstuds ore holes. Don't know about the Opinel then.

Oh yeah, the surface of my G10 Peanut becomes a bit slick when wet. Not very much though. Still a reasonable secure grip :)

Funny, but my dad who turns 80 this year has been able to survive just fine throughout life as a machinist, farmer and army mechanic with just a slipjoint and hanky in his pocket.

All kidding aside, after reading these posts, I feel very deeply honored to know that so many of you feel that way. When I first began rambling about some of the stuff I experienced growing up, and about my dad and Mr. Van, I never really expected anything. In fact, I don't really know what made me start to write the posts I did. But over the course of the past couple of years, and coming to know you guys via the 'net, I feel like I could adopt you all as my honorary grandsons.

Kinda gives me a warm feeling to have you all say such nice things about me, to the point of buying a particular knife that I've written about. Even if the peanut is a really nice knife to carry. In this day and age of excess, and the bigger is better mentality, it's nice to know that a modest little tool can still find a place in a knife knuts pocket.

So, for all the nice things you've said, for Halloween, I'm going to tell you all the story of "The Trapper That Wasn't There."

When it gets a little closer to All Hallows Eve, that is. :D

Cool tribute to the peanut, jackknife's stories are very genuine as well. I've spent a bit reading them here and there.

On a side note, are those G10 peanuts available? And for the newb question did Case make alot of Peanuts in CV??

Thanks!

Matt

Case does indeed make the peanut in a nice variety of handle materials in CV. In the past they were CV. When my father was the first one of his family to be going off to the University in 1937, his mother, my grandmother, gave him his peanut for a parting gift while seeing him off at the train station, as it was more befitting an academic in a suit than his big single bladed sailors knife. I don't think at that time they were made in anything but carbon steel.

Both Smoky Mountain knife works and Sheppard Hills cutlery has a good supply of them at very reasonable prices for the quality of the knife.

Thank you sir, doing a bit of searching now...

Well I have also been brought back home by Jackknifes great stories and reread them many times. I have added peanuts, stockman’s and trappers to my edc and have my two working stockman’s in my pocket at this time. A big thanks to jackknife for all he shares and for guiding us that were caught up in the fast pace of this world back to simpler times. After reading his stories I can now actually live a simpler life even though I am still driving from the mountains to the big city and doing the same job. Just pickup a slip joint continue on your daily routine and be ready and willing to help another person rather than just rush by and you will find the simple life is still around.

This is my only peanut and it has a special significance. A few years ago when we made a family trip to Europe this was the only knife I brought. It did everything I needed it to do and looked good doing it.

I volunteer to be a grandson!

I am honored that you accepted my friend request, JK. I only joined the forum in March of last year, and only the last six months or so found this forum, and my new addiction to traditionals (thanks to JK's wonderful stories). Don't have a peanut yet, although I lust over the yeller handled CV Case peanut. Just have to convince the wife that I need another small knife, whenI already have so many large ones. But this has got to be the classiest, kindest, forum on the internet, period. You just don't find so many people with traditional morals and concern for their fellowman. I am happy to know you all, even if I haven't met any of you in person.

I would never have considered the peanut w/o jackknife's influence. But I did get myself a yellow CV last year, and when my father saw it, he very nearly stole it from me.

I gave him a red bone CV for Christmas. He lost it about the time I misplaced mine. He missed his so bad, he went right out and bought another one just like it.

Me, I've taken longer to replace it. Dad lost his while he was out and about, but I'm pretty sure mine is hiding in a corner somewhere in the house, so I've just ... waited. But, I just ordered a Boker in jigged brown bone. Just got tired of missing my tiny one, so ... hopefully, this one won't bite me as soon as I sharpen it like the last one did.

I'll probably find the one I lost the day after the new one gets here. Just the way life goes, I guess.

The next thing will be your lurking in second hand shops for old dented perculator coffee pots, cast iron fry pans, and maybe even taking up smioking a pipe now and then.
Oh oh... I'm already two of three. So, tell me more about perculator coffee pots...:D

This thread got me to thinking. About two years ago, like spydutch, I fell victim to jackknife's evil powers or persuasion and found myself purchasing a knife I'd long scoffed at, a Case peanut. Of course, in no time at all I was fully under the peanut's spell, singing its praises right here online and elsewhere.

I wonder how many of us now own a peanut as a result of jackknife's proselytizing. Can I get a show of hands? Case ought to at least send the guy a bumper sticker or something! :D
Jackknife was mostly responsible for my purchase of a Case C.L. Platts Peanut. Great little knife, and I am definately NOT done buying peanuts!

This is my only peanut and it has a special significance. A few years ago when we made a family trip to Europe this was the only knife I brought. It did everything I needed it to do and looked good doing it.

That has got to be one of the most gorgeous Peanuts ever made... yep. Gonna put it on my list.:D

I thought my knife buying days were far behind me. Then I see a beautiful damascus peanut like this, and I can feel myself control wavering.

Come on, Jackknife, just one more!! What harm will it do? You can stop whenever you want. Just one more won't matter. Go for it.
LOL.

JK, just repeat the KnifeKnut's Prayer for serenity: God grant me the Serenity to accept the knives I have, the Courage to aquire the knives I need, and the Wisdom to know that I will buy more...
