Visited the Spyderco booth a few times during this recent blade show.
Had the good luck to speak with Mr Sal Glesser, his wife and his son.
All 3 of them were very patient with me,took time to show me the knives I was interested in went over them in detail.
Even with their busy schedule and the huge amount of people at the show, they were extremely pleasant and cheerful.
And this to me, a complete stranger to them.
The Spyderco knife will be extra special to me because of this.
This was one of the highlights of the show for me.
My thanks to the 3 of them.
Maybe some more of you would chime in with your experience at the Spyderco booth.

Mr. Glesser was just as kind to me and my coworkers at SHOT this year and every year. He only ended up pardoning himself when he became late for a meeting! Sal's a great guy, and so is Eric.

While I didn't go to blade, I did have almost the exact same expeirence when I was at SHOT earlier this year.

Even after all the things you hear about how the Glessers, and Sal in particular, are so nice, friendly, and wonderful people it was still nice to see it first hand. I had randomly walked up and starting looking at the prototype case and Sal was sitting by it and just struck up a conversation about the designs and knife ergonomics in general. For me this was amazing since Sal is my favorite knife designer and I mostly just get Spydercos he designed; LOVE the Military, Stretch, Calypso, Cricket....etc. The thing that really amazed me when he was talking was that with all his knowledge, expeirence, and wisdom it never felt like he was talking down or sales pitching me, we were just talking about knives since we both enjoy them, which was very nice and personal.

Besides the great knives and his willingness to discuss them at great lengths; it is the dedication of Sal and the Glessers to their customers that really is impressive. When Sal said to me that he works for us and the whole Spyderco company is focused on the ELU (End Line User), it just showcased the mindset of the company. He said without us the ELU, Spyderco would not be and he would just be some guy some ideas in head. It seems that he appreciates every one of his customers because it allows him to do what he loves, design and talk about knives. This dedication, and feeling that a company truly cares about the customer, is what consistently keeps me a Spyderco customer.

Oh and I want Sal to be able to design more knives

Ditto..
At BLADE this year, I didn't get to talk to Sal, but did spend a good amount of time with Ms. Gail, and Joyce at the booth. All the Spyderco folks were great. Like has been siad, it is really just "knife talk between friends" never a sales pitch. It really does feel like you are with old friends. As Ms. Gail said, "we're all just neighbors".

It is really awesome when you think that in this day and age, the president of a company comes out "in the field" and genuinely wants to hear what his customers thing, good, bad, or ugly. I imagine if some other companies took this approach, they may find the same loyalty from their ELUs that Spyderco has.

Raj, it was exactly the same way in 03; the only Blade I have been able to attend, and Joyce was the same way too!

The Spyderco knife will be extra special to me because of this.
Raj what knife did you get? I usually check out Spyderco at the NY shows and everyone there is 1st class.

It is good to read all the positive comments about the Glesser family
With such people running the company, one is assured of good products and good service.
Robb,I did not buy any spyderco knives at the blade show.Spyderco booth had a" no sale", policy at the show.
I usually carry and use a Military and everytime I use it,it will be something extra special, because the Glesser family treated me so well.
If all goes well,I may be buying the titanium Military, when it is released. The prototype was very nice.

Just a side note,Spyderco also sponsored 2 men for the "Cutting competition"held at the blade show.
