Hi Folks,

Just wanted to post a general "thank you!" to all you forumites who have been singing the praises of the Sage series.

Honestly, the Sage was never on my radar. But after reading so many owners waxing ecstatic over them, and then watching some Youtube videos expressing the same exuberance -- I decided to take the plunge.

Anyway, my Sage 1 showed up yesterday, and all I can say is -- "Wow!!!"

As soon as I snipped the plastic packet, pulled out the knife, and flicked it open -- I knew I was a believer. :)

My immediate thoughts:

The release -- very, very smooth...Not quite as smooth as my Superhawk or my personal benchmark for opening smoothness (a SS Poliwog which is so smooth I can't even feel it opening), but incredibly, pleasantly smooth nonetheless.

Manufacturing quality -- pretty darned near flawless. There is one tiny machining smudge on the SS liner (facing the bottom), so I can't say "flawless" -- but I am totally content. The blade is perfectly centered, and I can't find reason to carp on anything else regarding the fit or finish.

The slabs -- I can't say enough good things about it. I've never had CF slabs with this style of finish, and I am pleased beyond all expectations. Visually, the 3-D OpArt effect is stylish and captivating. Tactilely, it feels like the perfect balance between smoothness (for pocketing/drawing) and grip security. Also, the size/shape of the grip for my hand (medium-sized tennis grip) is absolutely perfect. I don't believe I've ever held a knife grip that fit so much like a glove in my hand, in either forward or reverse hold. Again, I've only had this knife since late yesterday, but as of this moment, I am dubbing it my favorite knife grip.

The blade -- this is the same old, boring Spyderco "scary sharp"... :o

So -- thanks to all you folks who prattled on and on about the Sage ( :D ), I have a truly wonderful addition to my EDC rotation...

I have to say I pretty much agree with everything in this post, other than the "scary sharp" part. Out of box it was mediocre, but after a few minutes on the Sharpmaker... it's push-cutting phonebook paper :D

Heh...Maybe my Sage was lucky enough to have the blade ground by a Taichung employee on a Wednesday... :D

+1

Wasnt even thinking about getting one but I talked myself into it after seeing it mentioned in glowing terms several times recently.

I dont have mine yet but it should be here in a day or two. Hope my expectations arent too high.

The gayle bradley keeps getting postponed. It has been on my list as my next purchase for about 6 folders and a couple of fixed blades now. Maybe next time.

Picks pleazzzzz.

Ick...I hate it when people ask me to post pics, because when it comes to taking photos, I have all the skills of -- well -- of someone who doesn't take good photos...

You gotta get your hands on the Sage 3 - brings smooth opening to a new level :)

Mine was waiting for me when I got home. Nice surprise. Didnt expect it until tomorrow.

I just got home so I havent cut anything yet but I think its the best knife Ive ever received in terms of fit and finish and cosmetics. Grinds, centering, lockup, action, scales, etc are all pretty much perfect. Feels nice in the hand even with my big sausage fingers and the scales are super nice. Pictures dont do them justice. I think this knife is going to be seeing a lot of pocket time.

my favorite spyderco knife hands down. Excellent choice. I plan on getting another for a back up.

i ended up getting the chaparral instead of the sage...but keep eyeing the sage

For those who have both -

Which flicks out more smoothly/faster? Sage 1 or Sage 3?

Apologies in advance if this is a bit of a thread hijack...
