A while back, I was very pleased to be picked as joint winner of Vanguard’s ‘mystery’ giveaway (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Am-Gold-Again-quot-Giveaway-WINNERS-ANNOUNCED). Vanguard posted off the prize very promptly, sending it ‘First Class International Air Mail’, but it’s taken a while to reach me. No wonder, considering that for some reason, despite the package being very clearly addressed, it went VIA AUSTRALIA! When it arrived in Australia, one might think that whoever received it at the Australian Postal Service might have scratched their head a bit, but sent it promptly on its way to England. Instead, they opened it for inspection by Australian Customs, on what legal or common sense basis I’m unsure.

Anyway, Vanguard’s package finally arrived into my eager hands yesterday, and I opened it with my underused Boker Stockman and a quickened pulse. Along with a nice hand-written note from the good man himself, carefully packaged, were an assortment of goodies.

It’s rare to come across an old US-made knife here, that hasn’t been purchased via the internet, so vintage American knives are a real treat for me, and I really like the Camillus jack that I won. It has the pen in front of the main blade, as I prefer, is in great shape, and came ready to carry (as all the knives did). It’s a good size for EDC too, and I can see we’re going to get along very well :)

Along with the Camillus, Vanguard included three other knives: A Schrade Old Timer muskrat pattern, a great old knife with some real character; a cute little Hammer Brand pen-knife; and a German Unimart with a single blade.

With the knives, Vanguard also very kindly sent some coins for me, and a vintage Cleveland police button. I’m afraid that the kitchen-table pic here doesn’t do them or the knives justice, but I hope to get better ones soon. I just wanted to get this up and say thanks to Vanguard, and that I really appreciate the generosity. Thanks pal

Congratulations Jack, and kudos to Vanguard. I too have been on the receiving end of his kindness. A couple of my favorite knives came from him.

Very nice! What a cool package to receive! Nice work, Vanguard. Congrats, Jack.
I love the people who make this place what it is.

Very nice Jack. Kudos to Vanguard. Via Australia? Go figure.

Thanks for posting this, Jack. It´s strange in which direction sometimes things are sent... however - great looking knives you got there :)

Thanks a lot fellers. Had a great walk this afternoon on a very cold, but sunny, English day, and got a few more pics :)

Very cool knives, with an interesting travel behind them:cool: that OT Muscrat has some thin blades that can be devilishly sharp:) thanks for sharing Jack:thumbup:
Kudos to you Vanguard:thumbup:

Happy it finally got there. I was extremely worried. I was ready to go out and buy Jack something new.

You're too kind Tom :) Not had anything go missing yet, but it's always a worry isn't it? I certainly never expected your package to go via Australia! I think I'll take the form and envelope down to the Post Office and try and get an explanation. The address is certainly written clearly enough, all I can think is that the packet was put in the wrong mail sack, but heaven knows why it was actually opened in Australia.

I remember the worry with a giveaway I did a while back and the knife seemed to take forever to reach the winner, it was something like 2 months!

Oh and nice pictures Jack.
And thanks everyone else for the compliments. It's the right thing to do in return for a nice guy, especially after giving my son a knife that is currently one of his favorites.

Thanks Tom. Glad your lad is liking that knife, the style is one of my favourites too. I'll keep you both in mind for the future ;)

Good on you Tom!, you are a great guy to have around these parts, and thank you for those gifts to Jack, he too is another great guy to have around here.
That Camillus is a sweetheart of a knife!

Cool knives, glad they got to you Jack! Good on you Vanguard, that is a great package to send

It gets said a lot 'round here but it's true, there are terrific people on this forum.
