I entered Vince's latest giveaway and was thrilled when he announced that I won a Patch knife made by the man himself. I was quite excited for it to arrive and when it did I was even more impressed than I expected to be. The blade itself is a blank by Green River (Russell) and I expected something similar to an Old Hickory knife because I have a lot of experience with them and they originated in a similar time period. Though they are both USA-made 1095, the Green River must be at least 5 Rc points harder (feels like 58-60 when I run it across a stone) and is finished to a much higher level. It's pretty great when an interesting blade like this is the least interesting part of a knife... The handle is amazing. It's book-matched Maple with great grain and finished to a high polish. The fit of wood to steel is always a very important factor for me (I refinish most every fixed blade in this area) but Vince has an expert's hand and the scales are perfectly fitted. I can't catch my nail anywhere along the tang in the slightest The whole package slips into a most excellent sheath of dark leather that Vince somehow made very rigid. The knife can easily be drawn and resheathed one-handed yet the retention is very reassuring. Vince's sheath work is great and photos do not do the quality of the leatherwork any justice.

I have already put the knife to use around my cabin this weekend and I'm loving it. The size is perfect, the small blade is very appropriately thin (1/16"), and the handle is very filling and comfortable.

Thanks Vince, you do incredible work!

Very nice. Looks like a very useful knife that will get well loved over time. Way to go Vince.
I got word from Vince that mine is completed and shipped too. I can't wait. :D

Look like this Patch does have that aire of sophisication, and that sheath is very well executed. I'd say a perfect patch

I'm glad you like it. The sheath is made by a sheath maker in MS. , Carl Thomas.

I really like the contrast of the maple handles and the sheath color. The knife and sheath both look super !

Primble ,all the winners goodies are sent out. Your blade will be in Monday & I'll be getting that finished this week,I'll be in touch.

Great looking knife there! Nice work Vince.

I cut the corn off the cob before I eat it (weird I know!), it looks like this is the perfect knife for that task.

Mark I do the same ,I can't stand getting it out of my teeth!! ,In fact I have the whole gang here following suit & I prepare it this way at dinner time

I am an American, therefore I eat my corn on the cob...
We built a fire at the cabin and cooked the corn in the coals. The chicken was spatchcocked and grilled for an hour. With the fire going the bugs stayed away and we were able to enjoy our meal outside: not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.

Vince: the sheath is a perfect match for the quality of the knife you've made here. I'm really enjoying this little thing.

This weekend's use seems to have started a patina that will surely grow with time:

Thought I would piggy back on your post and offer my thanks again for the really neat kitchen utility knife. Not the best picture but I really like the handles and the fit and finish is excellent. Thanks again Vince!

Congrats on that visually appealing patch knife and sheath, Macchina; thanks for sharing some pics of its early days with you!:cool:
Same to you, Drew; looks like you could invite most of us over for dinner, and your new kitchen knife would help you feed us with ease (unless a big fight broke out over patriotism and procedures for consuming corn on the cob)! :D:D

Thanks for the generosity and variety you included in your GAW, Vince!! Very good of you, sir!:thumbup:

I received my boning knife Saturday. The Cocobolo handles are beautiful, as is the very precision work Vince exhibited in assembly. Outstanding work Vince and I love it. I cut up a chicken with it tonight. Razor sharp ! Washed it off and took it out for some pics. (NO need to worry about a dish washer - the only one I have is me) :D

Thank you again Vince !!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::D

Congrats on the superb boning knife, Primble!:thumbup:
I suppose I'm quite provincial and unfamiliar with Kentucky delicacies, but do you really catch mice and then bone them down there??:eek:;)
