Tomorrow I will be serving my family Thanksgiving dinner. This will be my first turkey ever and I am a nervous wreck....I can sometimes ruin mac n cheese, toast, cereal...you know the simple things...please no judgment here! Cooking is not easy.:) Anyway, I did try begging my dad to buy a deep fryer for one and cook it that way.. however he thinks it is about time his little girl learned how to cook one in the oven just like all the real women do!

Wish me luck, I am sure I will be needing it.

In case it does go horribly wrong, here is my story** I made it taste horrible on purpose so dad would deep fry one next year. :D

I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving!!!

I think Butterball.com may have some useful tips. I'd eat a burnt Reebok if you cooked it.

Good luck.

Honestly, cooking a turkey is not rocket science. It is pretty tough to screw it up, as long as you cook it long enough. We normally cook them longer than the "instructions"

But that is because I am a freak about cooking poultry enough. It is just like roasting a chicken, but takes longer.

Lexi get one of those roasting bags...they work wonders, keeps the turkey moist and crisps the skin. The turkey fryers are amazing also though. YUM YUM. Good luck with the cooking and have a great Thanksgiving.

Happy early Turkey day Lexi! If your cooking skills are even 1/100th of your customer service skills you will be a helluva host!
Thanks for all you do!
Eric

Here is a hint for cooking turkey. Go to walmart and by the deli meat. Then pin it together to look like a turkey. warm in a microwave and serve. Perfect everytime. :p

Have a great Thanksgiving

You are a good friend, thank you for the wonderful hint!:thumbdn:

I almost forgot to ask....does anyone have a special Busse set aside for the turkey carving? I will be using Need2Know's NMFSHLE. ;)

Good luck and make sure you remove anything inside the turkey that could burn it from the inside out haha.

With my blessing!!!

All I ask is for some photos. ;)

You will do a great job preparing this meal, I'm certain. Heck, I cook birds for my family from time to time. I learned to cook and do my own laundry while in college, no reason to ever lose those skills.

If the bird is packed with innards, remove them, the rest is easy as sticking the bird in a pre-heated oven. Sometimes I use a cooking bag, sometimes I baste the bird in broth as it roasts. Experiment with it and have fun. If it ever feels like work, it loses some charm.

Instructions:

First, go get 12 pounds of bacon...

Ok, that's the "other white meat..." nevermind.

Just have fun, get a good cooking thermometer.

Consider brining (if the turkey is fresh), convection ovens work well if you have one (and don't have a fryer ;)

Did i mention, have fun!

I'm thinking of using the pork shank. But if i had a big Sarge, that would probably be my choice...

IDK which Bussekin to use. May break out the Scrap Maxs for some of it, but big slices....maybe one of my B10LEs, since Lexi has plans for my NMFSHLE.

I was hoping to use the new NMFSHLE #459 that chopridesanRC51 bought for me, but I will go with the standby (No Slouch) CGFBM I got from Old Physics and my gifted #459 MUK. I use INFI for EVERY food event. BTW, we use the Reynolds Oven Bags for our turkey. Has been nothing short of a juicy success since we started.

I'm sure that the meal will turn out just fine! No luck is necessary. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

For a first timer an easy recipe......and don't worry about that pop-up timer...they never work.

When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

10-15 lb. turkey

2 cup melted butter

2 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)

2 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER’S LOW FAT…..of course)

Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds.

When the turkey’s ass blows the oven door open and the turkey flies across the room, it’s done.

And, you thought I couldn’t cook …
