That Charlie, One Great Friend

Amazing! The generosity of this group is truly mind boggling. That's a great combination. Worthy of framing together.

Absolutely love stories like this. A very fitting result for both objects (and for Charlie and Augie. :-)

I don't really know what to say, I'm a little overwhelmed and I don't put into words well what I'm thinking so I'll do the best I can.

In another thread I had posted that I've been looking for an E.K. Tryon knife, preferably a Barlow as that is my favorite pattern. The reason is, I have a special shotgun that was ordered from the Tryon Company in Philadelphia in 1923. It is an AH Fox XE grade, found 6 years ago in as my gunsmith said less than enviable condition. I turned it over to him for a complete restoration and got back 5 years later a work of art that is my favorite vintage sporting clays shotgun.

So I thought it would be pretty cool to have a knife from the E.K. Tryon Company to go along with the shotgun and have been hunting for a couple years for that knife with no luck. Well imagine my surprise after I posted the comment in the other thread that I received a PM from Charlie asking for my address and stating he had a Barlow for me.

Well it showed up yesterday and all I can say is wow, it is a beautiful Barlow, full blades, love the swedge on the spear, looks just like the original TC, beautiful bone handles, knife is snappy like new. Just a beautiful Barlow to complement the Fox, you can bet that every time I have the Fox out the Tryon Barlow will be in my pocket.

Charlie, I don't know what to say other than a very big Thank You! I've got a knife for you that I know you don't have but I'm gonna make you wait until next years Rendezvous:D THANK YOU again!

Man...This is a AWESOME post, your Gunsmith Augs..... is a pure Legend, what a work of Art - and as for Charlie, God I can see sat down on a box - with a good bit of padding as for this one he took his time, and took his time he did with the Mould that made Charlie.

Charlie I see as Gods SFO, sorta like Charlie has his TC's as his babies - well...you get the picture, well God kinda decided to make Charlie a prototype and he broke the mould after his creation.

Im glad to call Charlie a friend, I love seeing such a man being so kind to his friends, truly heart warming:)

Kudos to Charlie and congratulations to you Augie! Two of the outstanding members in the Traditional Forum. You are both real assets to this community. Great write up John and wonderful photos as usual. Best regards to both of you, Lloyd

You did great. :)

I have to say, I am no longer surprised by Charlie's thoughtfulness and generosity, but the specificity of his consideration is always wonderful to behold. Thanks for sharing this, here.
